  1. Cool! I'm looking forward to it.
  2. I got off the fence and ordered the Wes Montgomery - Complete Riverside set from True Blue Music today. I probably paid too much ($150), but it's the large set version, brand new, no sales tax, free shipping, and I'm ready for some new music. Also, I like to help out Mosaic when I can. How's that for a bit of rationalization? Now let's see if it works on my wife.
  3. Jack Teagarden - Complete Roulette Sessions, disc 4 (started yesterday). If you don't own this already, get it! You still have today to take advantage of the free shipping offer.
  4. Out of 40 black box sets I own, this one is in the top five. It's desert island material IMO. In fact you've inspired me to take it to work today. My own fence sitting regards whether to spend $150 on True Blue's Complete Wes Montgomery Riverside. I've gone through Amazon's batch of 30-second samplers several times and read this forum's threads on it, all favorable of course. Still...
  5. Jazz Crusaders - Pacific Jazz Quintet Studio Sessions, disc 1 This was the first black box Mosaic I purchased. I don't break it out that often. Today seemed to be a good day for it.
  6. That would be like taking cigarettes away from inmates.
  7. For 18 bucks a pound, you can buy the best Peets or Starbucks has to offer, and you buy it when you need it. Unless you need a new coffeemaker, I wouldn't bother.
  8. Happy Birthday to a fellow Tom!
  9. Damn tootin'! I've blown through the 9-CD set nearly twice and it's still not getting old. This is a keeper for sure! I'm embarrassed to say, I never expected it to be this good! :blush2:
  10. Hee hee, these who's-your-favorite-artist threads inevitably list every known professional jazz musician to have lived. I'm a Buddy De Franco fan, but here's one that hasn't been mentioned: Henry Cuesta. I saw him play live in Santa Monica, CA in 1979 when I was in high school and his jazz solos really left a lasting impression on me. He's the first and only clarinetist I've heard who could slur a whole octave of notes as if he were playing the slide trombone. Simply amazing mastery. (There are probably other masters out there, but obviously I'm biased. ) His rendition of Estrellita on the current in-print Mosaic Teagarden set is by far my favorite jazz clarinet ballet.
  11. Let's hope they held back 1,955 of them.
  12. You'll notice the Ahmad Jamal and Carter/Bradford sets have been padded with full shipping costs as if you were ordering them standalone. Before the "free" shipping offer, if you had ordered both sets within the U.S., it would've cost $207. Now it's $5 more.
  13. Ahmad Jamal Trio, disc 1. Very impressive! Side note: has anyone noticed the price of the set has increased to $161? It's not part of the new free shipping offer.
  14. Just started reading this (took 2 months to get from the library). My first thought after a few pages: who wastes Harvard money on a CSC degree? MIT is more prestigious and just down the road. Great read so far!
  15. Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions. Yesterday was discs 1-4, today 5-8. Currently enjoying It Makes No Difference Now on disc 7. Man it swings!
  16. Disks # 2 & 3. 3 is the best, IMHO. Interesting. Disc 3 is the only one I couldn't get through. There's a point on track 1 where Carter is trying to hit the upper register of his clarinet and not quite reaching it. For a former musician, it left me cringing.
  17. $133 for the whole thing would be at the high end.
  18. John Handy Select. Just opened it today.
  19. It ain't what it used to be. I asked the question before, wondering if Fred is the new Cindy, not realizing that Fred has been there all along. I don't think they replaced Cindy. That's my guess. Cindy was always apologetic whenever someone along the service path (usually DHL) screwed up.
  20. I got both sets mid-week last week just as I was starting my vacation. I'll be listening to it today at work. Looks like Fed-Ex Ground does a better job than UPS. I'll be ordering that option from now on. No damage. BTW, I was surprised my serial number was so high (mid 500's) given that I ordered one day after it popped up on the web site. Must be a good seller.
  21. Anybody get theirs yet? I made a special request for USPS priority shipping in the special instructions block, but it was ignored. It used to be when you chose USPS over UPS, Mosaic would send it priority. Now you get a hybrid of Fed-Ex ground and local USPS at the end. Gone are the days of fast shipping. Sigh.
  22. No drama, now that sellers can't neg you back. The worst that can happen is they put you on their blocked buyers list, but you're probably going to avoid that seller anyway...
  23. Nice. Seems I cough up enough in bloated shipping charges. There's no more 2-day shipping. We get week-long ground service regardless.
