  1. not exactly true. mccoy also recorded 5 albums for blue note in the 80's and 90's.
  2. last weekend was educator's weekend - everything 25% for educators. my wife happens to be a teacher. i didn't buy anything, but they always have a cart of promo cd's free for the taking for educators. i put my wife's degree to good use and made off with 15 cd's over 3 days.
  3. for some reason the rhino handmade site has the aretha franklin set listed as temporarily unavailable. i wonder what that means. the cd universe link is interesting. i was told the jimmy webb might go back to print due to the good press and the quick sell out (much of the good press coming after it was sold out).
  4. find a cd that you like, and then click on the similar artists that yourmusic recommends (unless you like jimmy giuffre in which case they state that kenny g is a similar artist).
  5. is there a significant sonic upgrade on the miles boxes in the new format (vs. the metal spine editions)?
  6. noj - if i had an extra copy of "black saint" i would give it to you. that record is a mo fo, and i think it was the 2nd jazz cd i ever bought after "a love supreme." you need that one now. weizen - my wife was a big "sex and the city" fan, so i ended up seeing every episode. believe it or not it is a very well written show (with gratuitous nudity to boot).
  7. i just picked up a gold copy of "tapestry" by carole king that i intend to sell on ebay, but i realized that i had never heard this album. i've heard many of the singles, but i had never heard the complete album. so i am playing it now just to hear it, and the thought popped into my head - what's the most famous album you've never heard?
  8. i am experiencing this problem right now. i ordered 9 cd's on april 3rd, and my queue date is the 6th. 2 individual cd's shipped on the 7th, and i received them. the other 8 shipped on the 4th, and i have yet to receive them. i emailed yourmusic, and i was told to wait four weeks before they will find out what happened.
  9. i did not receive the email saying that the $4.99 deal is over. i wonder if i was missed, or i wonder if it is based on purchase amount. i've been a bad boy at $4.99 a pop.
  10. i purchased this cd from yourmusic not knowing what to expect. i had ben harper's 1st cd years ago, but i sold it, and i wasn't much interested in what else he had released. i picked this one up for s and giggles. and wow. i have listened to nothing else for the last week. i played it 2 times straight the day it arrived. it's been awhile since i've done that. anyone else pick this up? what are your thoughts?
  11. datdere - thanks for the research and the response.
  12. i am sure someone here knows what CBGB stands for (and all of those other letters underneath). please help a member of the uninformed.
  13. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...mMakeTrack=true now here's a real collector's item.
  14. it was put out by universal in 1999. the complete 15 cd box was limited to 10k worldwide.
  15. not the complete ball of wax (it's only 15 cd's which equals about 30 - 45 lp's). it's a 359 song survey.
  16. i might be in the market for "the chess story" import box set. this material is attainable in 2 different ways. 3 - 5 cd box sets, or 1 - 15 cd box set. if i purchase them, the price will be about a wash. is there any reason for or against either way. also, either way it's an expensive set - is it worth it?
  17. duh. i don't even remember my own topics. i didn't pick it up 18 months ago, but i did pick it up now.
  18. i have the george russell / bill evans lp on cd, and i think it's quite bad. if i remeber correctly it very dense and muddled.
  19. brownie and lon - thanks for the info. that explains it.
  20. i know that this title is out of print, but i am curious as to why it is not included in the complete verve box. it was recorded in 1974 whereas the verve box seems to stop in 1970. i am assuming that while this cd was reissued by verve, maybe it was originally recorded for another label, and that is why it's not inlcuded. if anyone could shed some light - it would be much appreciated.
  21. they are both out of print in the u.s. "she shot me down" is available on amazon for a cool $99. "softly as i leave" is not available on half or amazon at this time.
  22. thanks for all the input. i will be going back to get the cd. i figured with the people involved it would be great, but sometimes all star jams are less than the sum of their parts.
  23. i saw a cd yesterday that i had never seen before. "giants of jazz in berlin '71" the musicians include Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Stitt, Kai Winding, Al McKibbon, and Art Blakey. it's on Emarcy. should i pick it up? it appears to be out of print.
  24. no slight taken. it's alot of dross up front, but the reviews are decent for popular entertainment. i try to keep a foot in the popular music waters. they have reviewed mosaics from time to time.
