Quick: download them all before the BBC changes its mind! The show is only 45 minutes long so that's all there is time for. Plus it's main purpose is the interview element. The discs are usually only played partially; in the downloaded versions the music extracts are even shorter for copyright reasons.

Every extant episode is available here, at least to UK inhabitants. Even you are blocked from listening in your country, searching the castaways' lists is a nice way to pass the time.

Got mine last week. As Bigshot says it is huge. I immediately ordered the symphonies box from Amazon Italy. Incredible bargains.
-
I'm assuming the same because of the back covers of the "new" box posted on Amazon Italy: they depict the covers of the old OJC CDs.

Had my hopes up when I saw this thread revived. I keep checking Amazon.it for Kirk, Ella & Duke at the Cote D'Azure, Dinah Washington on Mercury and whatever others they may come up with, but nothing for a while now. The Hampton/Peterson would be a good one for the series too. Re the Evans, I have it on the way right now. It's €29.90 at Amazon.it. I'm sure it's the individual OJC releases boxed up, not the complete box, but I don't know if the former had the alternates as bonus tracks. Shouldn't be hard to check. I think the more recent OJC remasterings had even more alternates.

I haven't played your YouTube examples but, if it's easy listening/space-themed music you are after, how about: http://acerecords.co.uk/greatest-hits-from-outer-space Or http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=CDLK4424 And it's oop but also:

Herbie Hancock Complete Columbia Box
crisp replied to djcavanagh's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Columbia set is €87.90 at Amazon Italy. -
FWIW that Perahia set is £59.84 at Amazon UK.

What are the estate rights surrounding Garner these days? I know the estate blocked a full-scale Mosaic but here he is on the Dial set and he was on the Piano Moods set as well.

Thanks Jim, this looks very promising. I have song titles and composers and that's it.

Can anyone here direct me to a proper Glenn Miller discography online? I've been ripping my Original RCA Masters set and it doesn't have any dates on the booklet or via CDDB, nor is there any info on vocalists. It means I'm unable to tag the files properly. It's the same set as The Popular Recordings from 1989, so a scan of that set's booklet would probably do, if there's one of those online instead. I'm actually quite surprised there isn't anything exhaustive and nerdy on Miller, he had such an obsessive fan base when I first started listening to jazz. But then that was in the 1980s, which maybe explains why...

Just pulled out my CD and listened to these--I think he gets louder with each take! Till take 9, anyway. Shocking isn't it? Chris Rock has nothing on him.
-
The loudest take announcements I've heard are Sonny Stitt's on the VEE of Only the Blues. Holy moley. They're deafening. Almost funny actually. I like alternate takes when they are complete -- in fact I don't even tag them as such; I don't care if they are alternates, I'll decide if I like them or not. What does annoy is when chit-chat is left at the start of these. Again the worst culprit is a VEE: Motion by Lee Konitz. Almost every take is ruined. Yup. Track order wouldn't matter to me now.
-
That sort of thing used to bother me too. In fact I passed on the two VeeJay Mosaics because of this. However now that I rip all my boxed sets losslessly it's not an issue. It actually makes it easier to tag the files if they are in date order. I've never had any need for studio chatter and false starts, however. Today they seem like a very Nineties CD-era thing.

The price of this has dropped to just over £60 at Amazon UK.

Was there a good selection of these Atlantics there? I might try to make a special trip if so. Not as great as last time. First time I noticed these in the store they had a whole display shelf featuring them. This week there was no special display, just the individual titles (and not all of them) on the usual racks. Noticed that they had jacked up the prices on RVG Blue Notes as well (£3 to £8 !) Wow, that's pricey by today's standards. Luckily I have all the RVGs I want.

The forthcoming Sony Bernstein box is down to £60.81 (60 discs) at Amazon UK. Decca's new complete Rachmaninov is £37.96 (32 discs) at Amazon UK.

You can't download a latte. That's why.

I'm quite sure the Shaw is new to the running-low list. I've ordered it along with the Jones and the Williams select. I still have the Ellington Columbia 10-discer unplayed from more than a year ago so these will merely be added to the growing pile. But running-low lists wait for no man...

This set is a relatively reasonable 47 euros at Amazon Italy now: link.
