  1. Are you seeing him at the Blue Note? I might see him. He's gonna be there in about two weeks.

    Guitar Trios

They're called standards for a reason, and there are so many. For me, it depends on the right standard.

    Thank you!!!

    Guitar Trios

I have that. Thanks for all the recommendations. If you have any more, I would really appreciate it.

    Guitar Trios

I'm looking for modern day guitar trios that play a lot of pop and jazz standards, like Autumn Leaves, Solar, On Green Dolphin Street, Love For Sale, St Thomas, Giant Steps, Along Came Betty, The Days Of Wine & Roses, etc... Any help? No horns, just guitar, bass, and drums. (I also wouldn't mind piano or vibes)
  6. Yes, they are! My copy of But Not For Me & Angel Eyes are in very bad shape. I picked up All Of You for one dollar. But Not For Me was 5 bucks, and the music's barely audible.
  7. From the inner sleaves of my Ramsey Lewis records on Argo/Cadet, and from my friend who had But Not For Me Live at the Pershing, I discovered the Ahmad Jamal Trio with Israel Crosby on bass and Vernell Fournier on drums. I bought But Not For Me, Alhambra, and Angel Eyes. I really love it. I don't know much about Jamal's Argo/Cadet period with the trio with Crosby and Fournier. I was wondering if anyone knows how many albums they made together, what they are, and when or why Ahmad started using other musicians.
  8. This should be a great show with Hutcherson and Russel Malone at the Blue Note. I'm going thursday night.
  9. I found out about these guys on myspace. They're funky and they groove, but not a lot of substance.

    Mundell Lowe

    I like Transit West.
  11. Eddie Costa has them on high for the Guys and Dolls like Vibes album.
  12. Here's a picture of the motor and the belt on my vibes.
  13. That looks like a pretty high tech pair of vibes. Most vibraphones you'll see around music schools and various places have a small motor mounted on the far right side of the instrument, which spins two wheels with a belt that makes the wheels under the bars spin to get that vibrato sound. You can adjust the speed by chosing which wheel to put the belt around. The bigger the wheel, the faster it spins.
  14. Yea, I been wanting to check out the other quartet album for a while now. As for the other one, with the appearence of Guaraldi, I should really get that one. I love the sound Tjader got from the vibes on the jazz at the blackhawk album. I don't know if it's the vibes, the mallets, or the speed of the motor that gets that thick lyrical sound, but i love it!
  15. This album is superb!
  16. What ever happend to Hank Mobley
  17. Here's a picture of me with them.
  18. I'm currently making a demo with it and my trio. I'll have the songs posted on myspace soon and I'll put up the link.
  19. Umm, I'm totaly sure Mehldau's current trio is featured on a track called Ring of Life.

    Lee Morgan

You took the words right out of my mouth!
  21. Hey, could somebody describe these albums to me. I couldn't picture Nat in a commercial, Creed Taylor produced album, but apparently he recorded some albums for A&M records. Are they were looking into?
  22. I told you guys about a session I play a hammond b3 organ on last year. Well the guy called me up the other day, told me they put the single on a 45, got a label, and it's going to be sold in stores! This is a pretty nice break! It's selling on ebay. Here's the link. Black Cat 45
  23. I didn't like it. They should of did more tracks with the trio.
  24. 12/16. I guess its pretty good.
