  1. That was my initial question when I started this thread - from my research, it appears there were 10 volumes, all single CD's except for the Coleman Hawkins set which was 4 Vol. 1 - Lester Young Vol. 2 - Lennie Tristano Vol. 4 - Roy Eldridge & The Swing Trumpets Vol. 6 - Coleman Hawkins (4CD) Vol. 7 - Benny Carter Vol. 9 - The Keynoters (Nat Cole) Vol. 10 - Small Herds (Harris, Jackson) Not sure of the order of the following 3 (either 3, 5 or 8) Red Rodney - early Bebop The Fabulous Ellingtonians Red Norvo - Improvisations On Keynote
  2. Thanks for the info on the Ocium CD - That also contains the Juan Tizol Keynote titles (x3) - Willie Smith plays on those "I'll be adding the information to the Lord Discography which is what I do when I find the discography is missing informations" Brownie, are you suggesting that you can modify/manipulate the Lord Database? - I thought I read at some stage that this was possible but I have never been able to do this I have version 8.0 Even thought it is full of errors, I still think is a very solid piece of work (actually a very daunting task) - I'm still happy to support the project
  3. does anyone know if the Willie Smith session (May 2, 1945) has had a CD release September In The Rain You Ought To Be In Pictures Moten Swing (2 takes) Willie Weep for Me There's very little of his material in circulation on the CD format Recently picked up the double CD "Jazz Scene" (love the packaging/design) - contains 5 WS Quintet tracks
  4. p.s. -- wonder if that Miles material was recorded and released? I'm no Miles expert. EDIT - Looks as though some of the Miles show was in fact broadcast. Miles Davis Sextet Miles Davis (tp) Cannonball Adderley (as) John Coltrane (ts) Bill Evans (p) Paul Chambers (b) Jimmy Cobb (d) radio broadcast, "Bandstand USA", "Spotlight Lounge", Washington, DC, August 9 or June 30, 1958 Walkin' Jazz Music Yesterday (It) JMY ME 6402 All Of You - 'Round About Midnight - * Miles Davis - Four-Play (Jazz Music Yesterday (It) JMY ME 6402)
  5. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me that they are not planning a Complete Keynote CD-set at the moment; the chances that there ever will be one are very, very slim. Has confirmed my worst fears - what a pity but here's hoping!!
  6. The Clef (MGC743)/Verve (MGV 8030) LP Metronome All Stars 1956 consists mainly of Basie titles (5 out of the 7) These are all contained within the Basie Verve Mosaic box but there are two further titles 1. George Wallington solo - "Lady Fair" 2. Metronome All Stars - "Billie's Bounce" (Thad Jones/Eddie Bert/Tony Scott/Konitz/Cohn/Sims/Chaloff/Teddy Charles/Billy Taylor/Farlow/Mingus/Blakey) have either of these had a CD release? I'm especially interested in the latter All Stars title - what a line up I don't even think the Andorrans have placed these titles at the tail end of some of their releases (as they often do, to fill out the CD & make it more "exclusive")
  7. The Coleman Hawkins title was an alternate of "Cattin' At Keynote" (Feb 17, 1944) - was on Meritt LP 25 & is not on the Hawkins 4CD set There were 7 Benny Carter titles from the April 29, 1946 session not in the LP set ("Lady Be Good" x2 tks, "Deep Purple" x2 tks, "Moonglow" x2 tks & a single take of "Give Me Something" Obtained this info from the excellent entry/Keynote Discography by King Ubu (posted Jan 2008)
  8. Have given up waiting for the Mosaic Keynote set (too many contractual problems I presume?) & I'm not interested in the Japanese LP set, so I'm trying to pick up the individual CD's that were released in the very early 90's. So far I've managed to find the Coleman Hawkins 4CD set (picked up a still sealed copy for a great price), Lester Young & Lennie Tristano. From what I can gather ther are another 7 Cd's in the series 4. The Keynoters With Nat King Cole (Vol. 9) 5. Red Rodney - Early Bebop -> this one always seems to command a high price!! 6. Benny Carter/Arnold Ross (Vol. 7) 7. Red Norvo (not sure of title) 8. The Small Herds (Chubby Jackson/Bill Harris/Flip Phillips) -> have ordered a copy of this 9. The Fabulous Ellingtonians 10. Roy Eldridge & The Swing Trumpets Any more that i havn't found? - I know this is not comprehensive but it cuts a huge swathe through the keynote discography
  9. Have #843 (bought in 1998) & no abnormal sounds detected at the times mentioned Also have the recent Japanese TOCJ release (8630 - 1100 series) - nothing "abnormal" there either
  10. Just checked my Birdland CD (11105-1198-2-5) & it has the shorter version (8:07). It's a Euro pressing & it seems I obtained it here in Australia in 1996. I've also been thinking of upgrading to the recent Coltrane Impulse box sets - is the sound quality that much better than the 90's digipak releases? (what about the double impulse sets from the early 2000's eg love supreme, ballads - were they sonically improved on the 90's issues)

  14. Dusty Groove has quite a number of new Muse CD's for 4.99 just picked up Bill Barron's "Last Plateau", Sonny Criss's "Crisscraft", Wallace Roney's "Munchin" & "Crunchin" Can anyone comment on the sonic quality of these early 90's CD's compared to the later 90's & early 2000's 32Jazz & Savoy rereleases, particularly referring to the Criss Cd (the Barron & Roney CD's have never been reissued as far as I know) Any Woody Shaw fans out there looking for the 32 Jazz double "Two More Pieces Of The Puzzle" (Iron Men & Live In Berlin 76) - great double (has Braxton, Blythe, Abrams, Slide Hampton) Groove.inc (Swiss site - no shipping for orders over 20 euros) has it for 16.89Euros - thought most of the 32 Jazz material is OOP? That's a pretty good buy (have a look at the prices on Amazon - all of the Woody Shaw 32 Jazz material is a bit pricey now) especially with no shipping charge
  15. looking for help re the Blue Note 10" New Sounds From The Old World It contains three titles by The Swinging Swedes (Lars Gullin et al) and four titles by the Cool Britons (Johnny Dankworth's Septet - session date of July 29, 1950) Two of the titles by the Brits, namely "Birdland Bounce" & "Leapin' In London" are a bit of a mystery according to the discographies I have (Lord & the British Modern jazz site (http://vzone.virgin.net/davidh.taylor/bebop.htm)) These titles are not listed in either as far as I can find - two different titles are listed July 29th, 1950 (Esquire) personnel as May 18th except that Eric Dawson replaced Joe Muddel, add Marion Williams (vcl). M-7-114 Sam's Song (MW vcl) M-7-115 Haunted Ballroom Theme (JD plays cl) M-7-116 Seven Not Out (Tea For Me) M-7-117 Cherokee In the Blue Note Discography, these two titles have different matrix numbers from the other two in the session July 29th, 1950 -> these titles may be from another session but come up a blank when searched for on the Lord database SSS7-126 Birdland Bounce SSS7-127 Leapin' In London M-7-116 Seven Not Out (Tea For Me) M-7-117 Cherokee are these just different titles for the same songs (this occurred with a number of the Prestige releases from UK/European recordings ie names were changed for the US release) Hopefully someone out there may be able to help Thanks in advance
  16. While we're on the subject of Grooves-Inc (Swiss based online dealer) - don't worry, I've had no problems with them -> very legit Any Woody Shaw fans out there looking for the 32 Jazz double "Two More Pieces Of The Puzzle" (Iron Men & Live In Berlin 76) - great double (has Braxton, Blythe, Abrams, Slide Hampton) Grooves has it for 16.89Euros - have just received a copy in my latest order (not the boxed sets yet) - thought most of the 32 Jazz material is OOP? It's definitely a 32 Jazz release (not a boot) - actually Grooves has quite a range of Shaw CD's That's a pretty good buy (have a look at the prices on Amazon - all of the Woody Shaw 32 Jazz material is a bit pricey now) especially with no shipping charge Also, in the same order I've received an obscure late 60's Impulse release -> Impressions of New York by the Rolf & Joachim Kuhn Quartet. It's been released by MPS (6.59 Euros) Has this been released on CD previously? Not listened to it yet - any comments on this?

  21. It gets better have just ordered through Grooves-Inc (www.grooves-inc.com/index.php) - have been using them for the past 8 months without a hitch They are selling the sets for 23.89 euros & free shipping (for any order above 20 euros) Got both Haden & Threadgill boxes for 47.78 euros (approx 64.58 US$) Most of the online dealers have the sets being made available as from March 26
  22. Have ordered three times from CAM Jazz over the past year - no shipping problems (to Australia) & well packaged Actually, there were no shipping charges until recently
  23. a bit off the topic but I recently snapped a mosaic disc in two !!! (resulting in a momentary a cardiac "flutter") Had just received it (Ellington Sidemen) - the discs from the set were all extremely difficult to remove - anyone else have problems with that box Mosaic replaced it promptly First time I've ever broken a disc trying to remove it from its case
  24. The box sets have just gone up for sale on the Black Saint site (www.camoriginalsoundtracks.com/site/index.php?site=&path=home) They are selling for 27.96 euros or 38.83US $'s (all sets the same price) - what a great deal!! (just over $5.50 for each Threadgill disc)
