  1. No, I havn't heard it - I thought Circulus (US version) was a single LP & the three titles took up approximately 15mins but I realise now it's a 2 LP set with the quartet pieces taking up over 46mins - that's why they weren't put on the Early Circle CD! Drone 22:25 Quartet Piece No. 1 16:13 Quartet Piece No. 2 17:33 Quartet Piece No. 3 12:25 Percussion Piece 5:52
  2. Has the August 21, 1970 Corea/Braxton/Holland/Altschul session (Quartet piece Nos 1-3) ever been released on CD - was originally released on the BN LP Circulus (LA882) It appears to be the only Corea BN/SS session not to have been digitalised. I'm surprised it wasn't put on the Early Circle CD (84465) - that disc contains the 13 & 19 Oct, 1970 sessions & is only 55mins long
  3. PM sent on Shirley Scott w/ Stanley Turrentine "Soul Shoutin'" - ("Soul is Willing" twofer Prestige) $8.00

  6. Reinier many thanks for the info/scan that does confirm my findings that these two titles are from a different session not listed in the Blue Note Discography (1988 edn - don't have the most recent version - maybe it has been corrected?) SSS-7-126 Birdland Bounce (US title - BN 1611) = Brand's Essence (UK title - Esquire 10-115) SSS-7-127 Leapin' In London (US title - BN 1611) = Marshall's Plan (UK title - Esquire 10-115)
  7. PM sent on Dust Sucker (+/- the other two)
  8. I think I may have sorted out this anomaly The Blue Note discography gives this info Jimmy Deuchar (tp) Eddie Harvey (tb) Johnny Dankworth (as) Don Rendell (ts) Bill LeSage (p) Eric Dawson (b) Tony Kinsey (d) London, England, July 29, 1950 SSS7-126 Birdland Bounce BN 1611 SSS7-127 Leapin' In London - 116 Tea For Me Bn 1612 117 Cherokee - note that the matrix numbers are different between the first two & the latter two I did a search via matrix # through the Lord Discography & came up with a different session Melody Maker's All Stars Kenny Baker (tp) Gordon Langhorn (tb) Ronnie Chamberlain, Henry MacKenzie (cl) Johnny Dankworth (as) Ronnie Scott (ts) Dave Shand (bs) Victor Feldman (vib) Ivor Mairants (g) Charlie short (b) Jack Parnell (d) London, February 3, 1951 SSS-7-126 Brand's Essence Esquire (E)10-115, S-321 SSS-7-127 Marshall's Plan (ds out) - - I suspect that these are the alternate titles for BN 78 1611 - The BN discography may be a bit out here as it looks like we have two separate sessions It would be interesting to see who are the musicians listed on the 78 label ANYONE OUT THERE WITH A COPY OF THE 78!!!!
  9. bought three Strata East CD's from Japan last month ie Billy Harper's Capra Black & Charles Tolliver's Music Inc & Impact - all with great sound (Bomba label - 24bit remastered) HMV Japan have them on special at present (between 1600 & 1800yen) - there is a reasonable range of Strata Easts though not comprehensive Regarding the MS Tolliver box - hasn't Michael Cuscuna mentioned that they are considering releasing a further MS box in the future? Clifford Jordan's Glass Bead Games has been released by the Harvestsong label (Canadian?) - this is an official release via Clifford Jordan's wife (who had the tapes) - can only get it through Cadence as far as I am aware
  10. Anyone have a copy of this 78? (Birdland Bounce/Leapin' In London) If so they may be able to assist me with more details from this Esquire UK Johnny Dankworth session (July 29, 1950) The BN 78's often had the musicians details printed on the labels The Lord Discography & UK jazz sites do not mention these tracks were there alternate names for these? also there are other titles from this session The rear of the 10" (5019) has no musician/track details
  11. PM sent on Coleman Hawkins, And Confreres, Verve, $8 (1988 ed.)
  12. PM sent on Mal 3/Sounds OJC
  13. Thanks He also had quite a bit of involvement with Booker Ervin & Randy Weston in the mid/late 60's
  14. Has the Riverside LP Eastern Lights ever been released on CD (OJC treatment? - can't seem to find it listed anywhere & the Lord Discography has no CD details) BTW he also released a Pacific Jazz LP - LMB & The Four Souls (PJ 1) Elmo Hope did some arrangements for this session; also this looks like it has never had a CD release These two LP's appear to comprise his total output I'm surprised the Spanish have not yet released a CD coupling both of these LP's
  15. PM sent on Kenton Presents
  16. PM sent on AMM, “From a Strange Place” (PSF Japan) obi [trio w/ Rowe, Tilbury, Prevost AMM, “Live in Allentown USA” (Matchless) [trio w/ Rowe, Tilbury, Prevost]
  17. Set arrived today & all discs are fine (discs 2 & 7 are what they should be) Love the minimalist design!! Havn't listened to it yet but I'm certain I won't be disappointed
  18. That Amazon seller must've been hitting the pipe a little too enthusiastically - there have been several copies on eBay recently and they seem to be averaging around $450-500. well that seems much more reasonable - can't believe anyone would pay that sort of money for an 11CD set
  19. Found the above info on a google search (from freejazz.org in 2002) Note the price on the CT Berlin 88 box - there's one currently on Amazon for $1400 Bought my copy in 1995 for $250 from The Jazz Record Center (NYC) - I financed this purchase with a rare prog rock record I found (Dr. Z on the Vertigo label) for $1 in a "Lifeline" secondhand clothing store. Sold it for $300 to a collector here in Brisbane & was able to purchase the box & cover shipping also. Nice investment for a meagre dollar.
  20. Just read that the late Richard Cook (Penguin Guide) was the executive producer of this set
  21. Wow thanks for the info - has been on my wants list for a while just ordered a set from Amazon for 49.34 + 3.68 (shipping to Australia) I always thought this was a very limited edition set & sold out soon after release in the early 2000's Does anyone know how many sets have been pressed??
  22. Thanks for that info but I am really after the CD's
  23. Last week I picked up a still sealed copy of the Benny Carter CD from Amazon UK for 3.79 pounds Amazon UK has a used copy at present for 1.99 pounds - too much for the front insert??
  24. Thanks for that info Bev - just pulled out my 12" copy (bought it at the time) - big Wyatt/early Soft Machine fan I didn't realise that Harry had played on this will play Warm Smiles, Themes For Fega & Flare Up as tribute Everytime I access this site another great leaves us (sometimes I feel so isolated here in Australia - it's such a big trek for muscians to get out here) I do occasionally envy you people in the US/UK/Europe
  25. Lucky you - where did you find that? this is one CD high on my wants list but it always seems to be highly priced (actually have an Australian 10" Mercury LP "Young At Bop" - contains 8 titles on the CD) Have only seen it on Amazon (US, UK, France & Germany) Also, still looking for The Ellingtonians, Roy Eldridge, Red Norvo & The Keynoters (Nat Cole) - probably the harder ones to find
