  1. While this would be cool, is there anything besides the BN 50s sessions and his three Prestige albums? While all of those are out of print, they were available for years and can still be had.
  2. Interestingly enough, Jacknife is by far the most expensive item with the cheapest going for almost 70 bucks.
  3. Here's what I've mocked up from looking at Amazon. I left out some of the less...essential Best of/Capitol/vocal items, but I assume most of those are still available to those who might want them. Still Available for Retail Sale: Bud Powell – Bud! 4. I think the on-location engineering is great , the music itself merely good , given the talent involved . Brock Peters I find simply dreadful . Coincidentally , I just noticed that today is the 50th anniversary of this recording . Well, I was in the mood to hear Bean and he comes through fine to me on that one.
  5. Still a Carmell Jones available for 37.99 at http://www.reckless.com
  6. "Ascension (Edition II)" I think for the first time I've finally "heard" it.

  8. Pulled it out the other day for the Five Spot date. Great stuff.
  9. Yes, yes. Ornette's Atlantics are nice at the beginning of a late night, too. I Also second the person who said Merrill/Christy/Connor/et al, and of course Idle Moments. Johnny Smith's Moonlight In Vermont is perfect for those woozy evenings in. Birth of the Cool I've found Braxton's first two Aristas sound very nice around 2 AM when you're meandering. I also enjoy Louis late at night-- any of the Hot Fives & Sevens or Plays WC Handy. We should start an opposing thread: morning jazz. Personally, I find just about any Miles or Monk to be very invigorating at the beginning of the day. Same w/ Jeru.
  10. I'm still waiting for the Mingus Debut, Dolphy Prestige or Trane Euro boxes to hit cut-out status. But maybe that won't ever happen.
  11. Did anyone who got theirs from bargainentertainment on Amazon get shafted on the shipping? I paid the 2.98x2 when I bought the boxes, but then got a note in the mailbox saying I had to pick them up at the Post Office for 5.98 because of insufficient shipping paid on the part of the sender. Weak, weak, weak.
  12. Another question, then. Anyone know who presses LP reissues of those early 80s unreleased BN sessions (the ones with the plain white cover and random image)? Scorpio? I have seen copies of titles like Vertigo, Africaine and Mothership stocked (& re-stocked) at a local shop. I'd like to know what other titles are available.
  13. This Clifford Jordan date was issued on CD in Japan. I have a copy. Don't know if it currently available. I mean in the US.
  14. True enough. I'm not complaining!
  15. Can anyone explain why several BN titles that aren't on CD are readily available on these LP re-issues?
  16. There are multiple sellers on Amazon offering them brand-new for around $15.
  17. All I have from them is a pretty crummy Lester Young bootleg (Pres is Blue). Wasn't sure what it was when I bought it, but at least the jacket is nice.
  18. Just bought all three boxes for $50! Awesome.
  19. I like the date alright, nothing on it that really grabs me, though. I just got Delightful-lee in the mail today (monthly yourmusic shipment) and gave it a spin. I like it! Great solos from Joe Henderson, and the Nelson charts come off well. I'm looking forward to picking up more of his 60s sessions.
  20. Nope, just putting that out there.
  21. My Brookmeyer is #5059/5000 Any idea what that's about?
  22. Just got Blues With A Touch of Elegance in the mail, it's very nice. Definitely a set I'll consider ordering if it's still around in a few years.
  23. Just got back from the bookstore where they had even more RVG/Keepnews titles. It seems like now the question is what is in print? Even Sonny and Miles reissues from the last couple years were represented in the liquidation stack.
  24. All good options. FYI, though, there's also a ghastly looking tin-box Miles set sold at Wal-Mart for 16.88 which contains Relaxin', Workin' and Cookin' in original packaging. It's a steal.
  25. Just placed this order. Excited as hell, but not looking forward to the credit card bill!
