Dear friends I shall highly appreciate if you could recommend me jazz recordings by artists of newer generations. I am in a Ron Carter mood lately and try to purchase his post 1995 recordings (of which 90% is either deleted or only from japan). From the ones I found I was amazed by the playing, apart from Mr Carter's, of "younger" artists such as Russell Malone, Mulgrew Miller, Stephen Scott. So, I shall be very happy to discover more recordings by them or featuring them and other names of these generations. Many thanks! Alex

Postal strike wouldn't have anything to do with it, would it? MG still waiting, I am getting convinced that this one is lost/delayed in transit. I'll give it a few more days before troubling the "new Cindy" (aka Fred) My order from November 2009 was lost in the mail (Artie Shaw, Boogie Woogie Select, Randy Weston Select). Fred sent me a replacement order which arrived today, but without the Weston Select which was deleted in the meantime... What happened to your package? AR

I like this Cd very much and I am very fond of the Funkallero that opens it!! I managed to find an excellent used copy at e-bay a year ago for about $15.-- after loosing several auctions that ended far above than 50 to 60 dollars. Happy that this has been finally re-issued Best Alex

A friend of mine who is deep in soul and not at all in jazz, listened and liked Donald Byrd's "A new perpsective". Can you assist me in proposing similar recordings to him? Many thanks! Best Alex

Many thanks! It is crazy how the Bill Evans Album rare is on the Legacy CD. Do you know of any other edition? "Funkallero" from thta album is unsurpassable, IMO. Best Alex

Cue for me to recommend Mark Gardner's very good article on Curtis Counce's recordings in this month's 'Jazz Journal'. Those Counce albums are all great but I've got a particular soft spot for 'Exploring The Future' on Dootone. Worth it just for the cover art ! I love this one: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...10:gzfexqygldhe You Get More Bounce with Curtis Counce and a GREAT sleeve: You get more bounce

Well done. My first Mosaic Select was the Brookmeyer set that I listen very often to. Highly recommended as the Bud Shank/Cooper set is. Alex

All my thanks! Problem is that there are different numbers on front/spine and then the back. I think most of us will go for the number on front and spine. So Crolla becomes 04, Jean-Marie is 05 and Anachronic Jazz Band is 06. Oops, Crolla may have 06 on the front, but I am pretty sure it does have 04 on the spine. I'll check again tonight. It's really only a problem for the truly obsessed. The truly obsessed can always check the excellent site by a former Organissimo forums participant (Bonjour Volkher ) Jazz in Paris There is a note there on the numbering confusions in the recent releases.

Many thanks! After a research at Amazon.fr I got the following titles for the Hors Serie JIP releases. Check the list that follows. My problem is that, judging from the sleeves at Amazon, the Anachronic and Alain releases have the same 05 number, while there is no volume 04! Can you clarify this matter? Many thanks! Dear friends Just a quick note from not-a-so-famous jazz city. Today is the big day for every jazz fan in Athens, since Herbie Hancock's quintet (or sextet, we shall see) will perform tonight in the frame of his large European tour (I suspect you might have heard his thrilling perfrormance from the closing day of this year's Berlin Jazz Festival). The tickets in Athens were sold in two days. The same happened two weeks ago with Chick Corea/Lohn McLaughlin's concert. And Wayne Shorter will be in town in March. Great days, I am telling you and this is not so often here. Moreover Al Foster's Quartet perforrms in the Half Note Jazz Club (the one out of the two jazz clubs in a 5,5 million people capital...) for one week. So, yesterday I received a phone call from an "insider" that Herbie and his band will be at the Half Note so as to see Al Foster! I was 10 o'clock in the evening and preparing to go to bed... Suddenly I made the decision picked the car and drove to the club. Nobody (or very few apart from the owner and staff) were aware of this visit. Al Foster dtarted his set (what a magnificent drummer and musician he is). After the first tune, the door open and Herbie & Band entered very discreetly and sat. Some of the audince recognized him and went crazy. A lot of young students were there because it was Monday and the entrance with a drink is just 20 Euro. They could not believe it. Al Foster welcomed him as his former boss. And then Herbie greeted. He then sat on the piano and they performed a long Watermelon Man!! I have some clips from this performance. In case you are interested I could upload them for you. Then the intermission came amd Herbie was bombarded with autograph requests and CD/LPs signing (it was proven that some people were well informed for hsi visit). He gladly signed. The then had some small talk with Al Foster and Band, photos were taken with all of them and then he left. His band stayed till the end approx at 1.30. What a memorable night! A photo of Herbie and myself is attached. All the best Alex Athens
