  1. Yep, George is definitely a big fan. The Criterion Collection DVD of Hidden Fortress contains an interview with George where he mentions some of the similarities, and his use of the to tell the story from the point of view of the two peasant "warriors", i.e. droids.
  2. I've been on a big Kurosawa kick lately, since the local library has a pretty good selection of his films. The film of the week was Throne of Blood, which is an effective adaption of Macbeth and has some great acting by Mifune. Next film up is between Kagemusha and Ikiru...any suggestions?
  3. Great disc, and great sound It's one of the 20-bit remasters.
  4. Had to go with the Rollins, as I've never heard anything from this and I'm on a Rollins kick these days. Any word on alternates/extra tracks for these sessions? I think there is one on Indestructible! if memory serves me
  5. I have a few Japanese mini-LPs up for auction here if anyone is interested.
  6. Looks like we have a TOCJ here: The Right Touch
  7. Check the seller's first page of feedback... looks he bought around 30 positive feedback points for 0.99 each before his foray into selling... If only I had some feedback to sell...
  8. I think the mini-LP version was the last of the initial 250 in the JRVG series.
  9. Great find JohnJ, I used to work in Jinbocho and spent many a lunch hour at the Ochanomizu Disc Union. Other than the more obvious Shinjuku and Shibuya Disk Unions, check out the stores in Kichijoji and Kanai (Yokohama) sometime if you haven't already. The Kanai store in particular always had something worthwhile.
  10. Jason Moran - Black Stars Woody Shaw - Givin' Away The Store Byrd/Watkins - The Transition Sessions Wayne Shorter - Algeria
  11. Had to go with Speak No Evil, it's the one that set me off getting all the rest.
  12. Weizen...the way to write paper-sleeve is the first 4 characters in the logo above. I think there is some more identical text on that website that you could cut and paste if your computer has Japanese font capability. It can be written in roman letters as KAMI-JAKE and is pronounced like "kami-jahkay". The last 3 characters mean "limited edition"(though we know that might not be a literal translation ) and can be written GENTEI-BAN. I am not sure what jewel case would be, and my wife says it would simply be a SHI-DI- KE-SU (shee dee kayse). If you want to specify a normal case, you might want to write FUTSU NO KE-SU. Anyone you are ordering from should will probably know what you mean what you mean.
  13. Not on this list, but you can definitely fill any deep holes left in your Jimmy Smith collection. I wish I had a copy of TT to listen to myself! I remember seeing this a few few times, and don't know why I never picked it up.
  14. Has to be the Rivers/Donaldson JRVGs, though I only ever saw one copy of each for sale while I lived in Tokyo, and they were not sealed. They were also for sale for 4000 yen each. Then again, these didn't come with OBIs or inner liners, so I can't really be sure if they were in fact 'used'. Regarding the fact that there is only a reprint of the first 20 or so JRVGs, you have to remember that while there are a lot of jazz fans in Japan, a large number of the original 250 JRVGs are still sitting on store shelves there, as either new or used stock. With another hundred JRVGs set to come out over the next year, I can't imagine how a lot of the stores I used to frequent would have made shelf space for 350 JRVGs released during the same period.
  15. Good eye Wiezy Was wondering why it was there in the first place since it came out in the first 100 JRVGs.
  16. Anyone looking for this one as a TOCJ had best get to this auction(not mine) and hit the BUY IT NOW button.
  17. I will never forget being on the plane to go to to Tokyo for the first time, and learning that there had been a big eRection in Japan the day before.
  18. Picked up Fathead Newman's Under a Woodstock Moon for $3 from a clearance bin. Excellent session from 1996. I really need to get some more Fathead...any suggestions welcome.
  19. I just had a look at the Toshiba site, and it says (in Japanese) that there will be 100 new RVG titles starting in June. It will be interesting to see exactly what comes out...I hope to see some of those later Andrew Hill and Sam Rivers sessions.
