These guys are playing this Thursday night in Ottawa at kick off the Ottawa Jazz Festival. I picked up my festival pass today, and should be able to sit pretty close to the stage. Has anyone seen them so far this summer? It looks like they are playing a number of festivals.

I bought my first copy-controlled disc last week, the Beastie Boys new one. At $11.99 Canadian I figured it was a good test case to see if would be able to rip mp3s for my iPod. Without doing anything to 'get around' the copy protection, I ripped the whole thing to mp3 on my Mac G4 and made a copy of the CD. Anyone on the board actually have problems playing or making copies of these CC discs?

HMV Japan has these up for preorder with track listings. Looking at True Blue it looks like there will be no bonus/alternate tracks. Will be interesting to see who the remastering engineer will be. Good timing, as I have a trip to Japan planned for the end of July

It says on the Toshiba-emi site site that there will be 50 titles in all and that the series is to celebrate the 65th anniverary of BNs founding. No complete list however

I have a co-worker traveling to Tokyo...

If memory serves me, Disk Union and Recofan stores have a discount card system that gives you 10% off purchases. Both of these stores also have used CD sections where bargains can be had. The Disk Union stores near Shinjuku and Shibuya stations had good selection and good used stock. Recofan in Shibuya also has good used selection. Tower records in Shibuya gives no discounts, but they did have a whole floor dedicated to jazz. Here is a site that lists a lot of stores with addresses and hours of business. -
Minew, are you confusing SMS and True Stories? That was the Talking Heads soundtrack to the David Byrne film.

Is that correct that Fuschia Swing Song is coming out as an RVG as well?

Nice to see Dorham's Trumpet Toccata on the list!

MikeB, check out this link for the step-by-step procedure to open the iPod. I used a couple of small jeweller's screwdrivers to do it.

Thanks for the heads-up! Can't listen to the RealAudio stream, but it works great through iTunes.

I beg to differ about the session...of course I'm the one selling the CD Remember, starting price is $9.99. I just put the $40 BIN up there on a whim.

Just a little aside about the battery issue... I own a first-generation iPod that I bought in 2001, and started having battery problems starting once it was about a year old. Mind you, I was using the iPod almost every day during my commute, which meant at least 2 hours of use per day. A couple of months ago my battery time was down to only a couple of hours, so I figured I was probably on my way to a dead iPod. After poking around the web to see about getting a battery replacement, I came across an article (can't remember which site) that recommended opening the iPod and disconnecting, then reconnecting the battery. Apprently there was a bug in the power management system of the original iPod model that caused the iPod to incorrectly charge the battery, and by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery the power system recalibrates itself. I tried this, and now the iPod is back to holding a charge for several hours. So, after 2 years, there are still original iPods going strong under daily-use conditions. I'm sure there are some people out there with legitimately defective iPods, but I am satisfied that I've gotten my money's worth.

Let's see if all that publicity actually does anything for her album. When you debut at #1, there is only one direction to move in. -
Yes, stick around Underground.

Thanks for the info Grey, I'll check out CD Warehouse and see if they have some of the latest Conns. Undergroundagent, thanks for the offer that will come in handy as I am planning to go to Toronto sometime before the new year.

I just set up shop in Ottawa, and will be here for about a year. So far, I haven't seen too many music shops other than the usual suspects like HMV and MusicWorld, and their jazz sections are so small that they skip entire letters of the alphabet - no Lee OR Hank in most of them. Does anyone know of any stores here with a decent jazz section? Any info on Montreal would also be appreciated, as that is probably the only real option.

Weizen, Are you still looking for this? Sent you a PM. -
Just some additional info on Lonesome Road. It was indeed a TOCJ, however it was released in the 'Unissued' series as TOCJ 1615. Might be difficult to find these days. Lonesome Road Amazon Japan

I'm listening right now to the TOCJ, and there is no problem with The Rock. Could it be a McMastering problem? What does it sound like exactly? It could be some kind of digital distortion. Makes me wonder if anyone listens to these before they go out.

I'm with Aric here too, I think the 'oo can release as many CDs as they want. In fact, they made all their shows from the last tour available directly from their website. The 3 CD set available now in stores is from the charity show from 2001, which has been available on DVD for a couple of years. It WOULD be great to have a few more 70's era shows available in good sound.

Thanks Simon, I think that I will reserve Ikiru. I recently saw a different Kurosawa film set in the 50's, where the lead character is a fairly rich industrialist who has an obsessive fear of radiation and atomic weapons, and tries to convince his family to move to a farm in South America to be safe...I think it was called Record Of A Living being, with Mifune in the lead role. Highly recommended!
