  1. I love Al's work with Bird of course. Those air checks from the Roost are a treasure. Also his work with Stan Getz is beautiful. I caught Al in New York in the mid seventies at Gregory's. That place was so noisy. At the end of the set he just walked out of the club. So I started running after him. I wanted to talk. But he lost me in no time. I guess he was running faster. Denis
  2. Yeah that's it, thanks Larry. Somehow I lost that record. I am going to download the tracks right away;) Loved the groove on that album. Denis
  3. You guys are all over Sal. That's great. I remember one album "Very Live At Buddy's Place" I think. Buddy Rich at his club in New York with Sal and Sonny Fortune on alto, Kenny Barron on piano can't recall the other band members. Denis
  4. He sure is One of A Kind. I don't know if this has been posted but listen to this beautiful video. So understated. This reminds me of so many beautiful sessions with Brew Moore, Tony Fruscella at the Open Door. Denis
  5. "Too Heavy For Words" James Moody, Al Cohn, Barry Harris, Roy Brooks and Sam Jones. Recorded August 12 1971 Produced for MPS by Don Schlitten. Label PA USA PR-7029 Denis
  6. Such a marvellous musician. Great tone. Wonderful technique. So sad. Denis

    George Coleman

How about his collaboration with Chet Baker ? Five albums for Prestige. Recorded in August 1965. Groovin' with the Chet Baker quintet. Comin'On with the Chet Baker quintet. Cool Burnin' with the Chet Baker quintet. Smokin' with the Chet Baker quintet Boppin' with the Chet Baker quintet. These sessions have since been released on 3 CD's in 1996. Denis
  8. Really sad news indeed. Love his playing. Listening to a radio broadcast of Kenny Dorham's band at club Morocco in Brooklyn in 1967. Ronnie was on piano, Paul Chambers bass Candy Finch drums and David Fathead Newman on tenor. Also heard him live with Dexter Gordon. Denis
  9. Marla, How are you ? Denis from the Stan Getz Community. I knew we somehow hung around the same sites;) Thanks for the link Denis
  10. Chewy, Just d/l this album from EMusic. That's from the In Concert Jazz club in Montreal. Like I said I was there that week. Lots of good memories. Thanks for pointing this out. Denis
  11. Hey Chewy, Do you have more info on that Cannonball Montreal 1975 date. Must be a live club recording. I saw him around that time at the In Concert club in Montreal with Walter Booker on bass, Roy MacCurdy and either Hal Galper or Mike Wolf on piano Can't remember which one it was on piano. Thanks Denis
  12. Yeah Richie was such a beautiful player. Too bad all the YouTube videos have been removed. There were so great. The one with Vic Feldman and Frank Rosolino. I wish I could have d/l them. I have one of his last LP's on the Jazzz label with Mundell Lowe, Monty Budwig and Nick Cirello. Denis
  13. Bill I registered on that site at the beginning of March. The reason is I could find tracks that were not available elsewhere. Actually I was able to buy quite a few. But then a week later they had what they described as some sort of severe data lost. I could not search or get anything. This lasted for at least 2 weeks. Now they seem to be back online, but I can't login into my account. It's as if they lost it. I am reluctant to register again. I am a bit worried about it. Denis
  14. Terribly saddened by his passing. So many silent horns. How about that. YouTube - Elevation by Elliot Lawrence Denis
