  1. So, did they rename this one too?
  2. Miles - Milestones Never had this before. It's a bit of an old chestnut I know, but what a good record. Red Garland is an absolute MF. As a side note, I never knew the tune "Milestones" was formerly simply "Miles".
  3. I need to get this. I like Grant Green, I like Joe Henderson, I like a bit of soporific music, and I always liked "For All We Know", which makes me wonder why I don't already have it.
  4. Don Rendell & Ian Carr - Phase III. Suits the warm evening after a sweaty day of garden labour
  5. Intastella Paris Angels Northside (continuing the 2nd-division Madchester bands theme)
  6. My interest piqued, I ordered a copy of the Hawes book, which arrived yesterday. I read the first 30 or so pages, and so far, I agree with fasstrack. I read the Art Pepper book about 20 years ago, and it rather put me off him. I should dig it out and try again.
  7. Is an Ortofon 5E high end now?
  8. I'm 33 miles away. You're right about the weather - hundreds of walkers / climbers / Blue John miners around on the drive from Cheshire.
  9. I say glissen, is it glis-ten?
  10. I liked it. I only listened to side 1, so I've been spared Eric Dolphy on alto. I like Dolphy on flute, but his sound on alto grates on me.
  11. I went to Sheffield's Millenium Gallery today, where I took in the "Ruskin, Creativity and Craftsmanship" exhibition. Some impressive metalwork (Sheffield being the steel city and all), another Grayson Perry pot and a Tracy Emin blanket among others.
  12. John Coltrane "Ole" mmmmmmm....hypnotic
  13. I started a new job in February, and a great many of my colleagues and customers / clients use the word "perfect" with gay abandon eg "Do you have a reference number?", "XYZ 3000", "perfect, how can I help?". "Here's your brew", "Perfect, thanks" etc. I think I'm the only one who notices it, but I am older than most
  14. I've heard of the use of "while" for "until" in Lancashire too.
  15. Something I hope won't happen very offen
  16. There was an article on the BBC website this week about the "Southernisation" of English accents. Anyway, no "t" for me. There was an article on the BBC website this week about the "Southernisation" of English accents. Anyway, no "t" for me.
  17. Mingus Ah Um - first time I've listened to this in many years. I'd forgotten how good it was. You couldn't imagine Blue Note putting this out in 1959. Miles Davis "Relaxin" - another one I hadn't listened to in years. It reminded me of the early 1990s, which is when I first heard it.
  18. I fooking love that video, watched it many times.
  19. Nothing much I can offer to the thread, but I've always loved Oliver Nelson. He sure could write and play the blues. "Jams and Jellies" from "Introducing.." and "Emancipation Blues" from "Afro-American Sketches" are two personal favourites.
  20. Not all at once, I should point out. That would be pretty horrible.
  21. John Coltrane - A Love Supreme Wes Montgomery - Movin' Along Art Pepper - Smack Up! Charlie Haden - Liberation Music Orchestra
