  1. Re: Big Al, Yeah, I think the Mobley song doesn't really work with the rest of Diz and Getz. I have a play-list on my ipod that skips that song.
  2. A third vote for Getz and Diz! Back when I was first getting into jazz I picked up a two disc best of Stan Getz collection, and their version of "It Don't Mean A Thing" taken at an insane pace was one of the first jazz pieces to blow my mind. I've since mellowed on Getz considerably after discovering a lot more jazz, but that Diz and Getz album still gets a lot of plays.
  3. Thanks a lot. I'll definitely check out the piano concertos when my dowloads resume come next Wednesday.
  4. Hello, I posted something about this on the emusic thread, and Magnificent Goldberg said I might have better luck here. I'm on an extremely tight budget right now, so I'm only buying cds of my absolute favorites, and am using my emusic account to download any music I might be unfamiliar with. I wanted to check out Bartok after going on a serious Herbie Nichols kick, and picked up Gyorgy Sandor's version of the complete solo piano works. I love it, and would love to check out some more Bartok. Do any of you know if any of the emusic stuff (mainly Naxos etc...) is worth checking out, or should I save my penny's and my downloads, and check out the highly recommended Bartok stuff on this thread, when money allows? Thanks.
  5. Okay, I'm a newly wed and money is tight, so my emusic account is where I am doing most of my more adventurous music purchasing now days. (I am only buying CDs if it is by one of my absolute favs.) I know almost nothing about classical music, but I picked up Gyorgy Sandor's Complete Bartok piano collection and loved it. (I came to this rather impulsive buy after a serious Herbie Nichols bender.) I've checked out the classical threads on Bartok, and saw that none of the super recommended recordings are on emusic, but does anyone know if any of the other Bartok stuff on emusic is worth checking out, or should I just save my pennys and downloads, and wait until I'm purchasing more CDs again? Thanks in advance.
  6. Charles Lloyd started out on the alto, switched to the tenor, and returned to the alto for some of his duets with Billy Higgins on Which Way Is East. I've seen him play alto live since then, but I can't remember if he has recorded with it again after the set with Billy Higgins.
