  1. How is this proof enough? The track you're referring to did not appear on that album, but it appeared on a Horo anthology album, which is also easily "needledroppable".
  2. Seems like a weird way to release genuine product! The liner notes follow the pattern used in the liner notes accompanying all the bootleg cd's --- right down to lack of focus on the session at hand, and the credit to a writer obviously using a pen name (in the case of the Griffin and the Rivers, the writer is "Mike Nest"). The sound on these is actually pretty good, but it still seems that if Sinesio has partnered with the bootleggers, I guess it's just another case of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"!!!
  3. I think it was only out in Japan briefly a few years ago. A curiosity for lovers of Larks era Crim!!! My introduction to free improv. I originally bought this on vinyl around '78-'80 because it had Jamie Muir from King Crimson, I didn't know any thing about the music. I saw an ad in the Village Voice for a store closing sale on Broadway somewhere between 14th and 32nd streets and this was the only thing that looked interesting. Now you know why the store was closing!

  5. Well said, Jim! By the same token, it's also ridiculous to call Bonham or Peart sucky drummers.
  6. Classic!!! The part about naming song sections had me roflmao!
  7. Same here, but chances are it will be cheaper via one of the Euro sites since it is a Euro release. CD Universe has it on their site as an import for about $80. I ordered it from Amazon France for the equivalent of less than $40 plus shipping.
  8. Aha. The plot thickens
  9. As a general rule, I have it on good authority that ECM likes the sound of its masterings, and that it does NOT do remastering.
  10. A disc deserving wider recognition, I don't this this has been previously released in the Sates. from the golden years of ECM. It has been, and I have it!
  11. Ask Chuck how difficult it is to start a reissue program legitimately in today's economic climate. The owners of Horo may mean well with their intentions, but does anyone really believe they are going to release their entire catalogue on cd?
  12. Those Hip o Select releases are limited. My guess is that none of the non-US sites will get these. On the other hand, the Haden and Getz/Barron are European Universal releases, with the latter not even being available in Europe on its release date! Hm, I thought this was an Universal release? It says "Verve (Universal)" on German Amazon (and November 17): http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002IRBGYC...;pf_rd_i=301128 It's my understanding that Hip o Select is a reissue arm of Verve, which is owned by Universal USA.

  14. Both Amazon France and Amazon Germany seem to be saying that the Getz/Barron set will be available in 1 to 2 months. If that's the case, what does the release date of yesterday really mean?
  15. How would I know about the stickers if I didn't buy them? When I say EXACT same stickers, I mean EXACT same stickers. Also the liners were written by someone with a name I recognize (probably a pseudonym) from any of the other Andorran bootlegs' liner notes. I am 99.999999999999999999999% certain these are boots. Do they sound like needle-drops or from master tapes? They sound like needledrops. All signs point toward bootleg. If you guys doubt my observations, why don't you pick one up and see for yourself. I'm no shrink, but it sounds like there could be a little bit of denial going on here. I was just trying to be helpful, and save the moral majority some trouble and some bucks.
  16. Earlier this year, Universal also released a 6 cd box containing the individual Charlie Haden Montreal concerts from 1989 that were originally released by Verve within the last 10-12 years or so: http://www.amazon.de/Montreal-Tapes-Charli...7956&sr=1-1 Is the new People Time box all duo recordings, or does it include extras from the quartet recordings originally released on Anniversary and Serenity? That box omits the concert with Gismonti (released on ECM), it seems, and contains the trio sets with Don Cherry (& Ed Blackwell), Joe Henderson (& Al Foster), Paul Bley, Geri Allen and Gonazalo Rubalcaba, as well as the Liberation Music Orchestra set. It also omits the concert with Metheny which has never been released, probably because Pat won't give the go ahead.

  18. Again, we have to refer to this quote -- are they boots? Don't know yet. If you read my last post, I say that they are.

  20. I'm afraid that these ARE boots. They have the same exact "First time on CD" sticker that appears on a variety of other Andorran (Lone Hill, Gambit, RLR, etc.) releases.
  21. The picture in the article makes me think that they might not have taken the cheap route with the sleeves.
  22. White album, maybe. Abbey Road, not so much. After the Get Back sessions, Paul called up George Martin and let him know that he and John were willing to make an album "cooperatively". The Beatles were not fighting during those final sessions as they were during the White Album and Let It Be sessions.
  23. Yes, of course! Will be looking for that one. ECM was making some worthy albums back then! As they are NOW!!!
  24. The packaging impressed me quite a bit as well. On the downside, the set is sized like a book and will have to be stored with the hardcovers instead of the cd boxed sets. Upcoming sets from Hip-o-Select: Clifford Brown Nat King Cole "Tribute to Thelonious" Got the info off the Hoffman board. The Clifford will probably be a rehash of a subset of the Emarcy box from the 90s. The Cole will probably be the Deccas with maybe some Granz JATP stuff thrown in. The "Tribute to Thelonious" was a 2 lp set with various artists paying tribute to the music of T Monk. Verve had mentioned wanting to release this a few years ago, but never got around to it. Hip-o-Select, btw, is a UMG owned company., so I assume any music they release would have to come from under the UMG umbrella.
