    Zoom H2

Some may not know this but Fareed is totally open with audience members recording his concerts and club gigs. I've done it many times. Not totally sure he'd feel good about circulating a lesson tape... I hear he yells alot and uses corporal punishment ! Re the H2, I've seen a few in the wild but have never used or listened to one. I'd think they are perfect for the uses mentioned.
  2. Nothing more than running from my B&O table into an inexpensive tuner/phono pre to the computer's sound card line-in. Like I say, nothing fancy. I could put the analog signal into my modified UA5 and output a digital signal. Might be something to try but it's not as convienient. Sidewinder seems to have devoted much more, gear wise, to the process. For me, it's a bit of a diversion as I bide my time waiting for re-entry into the job market. What I find I enjoy the most is the editing that seems to be required for some of the less pristine sides that get played. I've been recording live music for about 5 years and over time have developed some sense of editing. Addressing noise reduction and removing clicks and pops from vinyl is a lot like knitting to me in one respect. When you get done, the product is much nicer than what you had when you started. It can take time.
  3. Just wondering if anyone here has spent much time transfering LPs to CD. I recently transfered and cleaned up the two Montreux Summit sets and will be tracking and burning them soon. I've got nothing fantastic in the way of a system but for me things worked out well enough. I find I have some time on my hands and may start working my way through the stacks.
  4. Anyone ever seen these guys? Happy Apple Jan 26 2008 8:00P The Ars Nova Workshop, International House Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  5. Slightly OT, but might get noticed under the DC heading, Happy Apple Jan 27 2008 6:00P The Kennedy Center Washington, DC A good time live and a very interesting mix of Out and more "accessable" pieces. As you were...
  6. First post to this board so I hope it's as good a place as any. I'm pretty new to Jazz so my list of shows is slim and has a decidedly local flavor, although some of these folks have some wider appeal. Seen in and around Minneapolis/St. Paul in clubs or on stage in no particular order... The Bad Plus Happy Apple Bill Cartwright & GloryLand PonyCat Lee Konitz Dean Magraw Trio Dean Magraw and Anthony Cox Nathan Hanson/The Fantastic Merlins Fat Kid Wednesdays Charlie Hunter Trio Bill Carrothers Dean Granros Trio Phil Hey Quartet Peter Schimke and Irv Williams Mose Allison Bettye Lavette Adam Niewood & His (Minnie) Rabble Rousers Mark Miller & Slide Huxtable Buffalo Collision: Tim Berne - alto sax, Hank Roberts – cello, Ethan Iverson – piano, Dave King – drums The Out To Lunch Quintet, a group of players who went to work and produced a very credible cover of everything on Eric Dolphy's LP, "Out to Lunch". I thought it very well done. They cut a CD of a live performance from early in the year. (Not sure how this board tolerates blatant salesmanship, so suffice to say the CD is out there for sale.) Coming up are Hugh Masekela and Allen Toussaint. Last year Booker T as well as Dr. John came to the Dakota... What a night! I hope to browse around here and pick up as much as I can. I'd love to know if there are any other jazz tapers out there. All for now, I gotta go.
