  1. Also, is this different than the Jazz Band 58-59 broadcasts disc? Looks like could be or could have some cross over. EDIT: answered my own question. It's four tracks from the Prestige Quartet box and the rest are on the Jazz Band disc, including the "What Is This Thing Called Love" that has nothing to do with Miles or his groups of the time.
  2. Not to go OT, but what is this Acrobat Music? I've seen a bunch of their stuff at eMusic and it looks kind of questionable, at least in the US. Also, you link goes to a Brubeck album.
  3. To be fair, the Cocaine Wolfs are named after a notorious Muncie character, so it fits in with their whole Muncie, Indiana aesthetic. They're all older family guys too, so it's not like they have any delusions of being in the top 40.
  4. Damn. I'd buy that in a second.
  5. According to the liner notes in the CD I have, Murray Watson is credited with playing with Rhoda Scott. Superstition isn't specifically mentioned tho.
  6. Friends of mine are in a band based in Muncie Indiana. They were to play a Muncie festival and be on a CD compilation sponsored by Budweiser. The track submitted, and approved by the show organizers, is called "Balls City," an affectionate nickname the locals have for Muncie (Ball State University is here and the Ball Corp. who make cans and whatnot, used to be the biggest local employer.) The show organizers especially liked the Muncie-ness of the track and put it first on the album. Budweiser was not amused, however. Based solely on the title of that song, they threatened to pull out of the festival if it wasn't yanked from the CD. The official line was they didn't want their corporation to be associated with "Balls City." So, the CD ended up not happening (but Bud still sponsored the show) all because of the title of this one song that Budweiser didn't want to be associated with. Want to hear the punch line? All this controversy was over a song title, while the name of the band was completely overlooked. The band name: The Cocaine Wolfs. It would appear Budweiser was ok with being associated with an illegal substance, as they never once mentioned the band name being an issue. But the word "balls" used in a song title in a non-sexual setting, and the meaning of which probably everyone at the festival would get, was just too much for 'em. Now, ain't that a bitch?
  7. I bought the (expensive) import of the Antibes twice as a "friend" absconded with my first copy. I'd gladly shell out again for a package of the whole deal. Yet another KOB...not so much.
  8. Agreed. I tried out dozens of others including Etymotic, Sennheiser, other Shures and even (tried in store anyway) Bose, and the e530 absolutely killed them all. I've used these with my iPod, computer, even used them as in ear monitors for recording. Absolutely fantastic stuff. Couple them with a Bitheads amp and you're in really good shape. Also, my first pair ended up with bad wring above the ear, Shure sent me a brand new set, I just sent the old ones back. Worth every penny. skeith, I have a pair of cheapo Sennheisers for the gym and they are really good for the money (around $30.) Can't remember the model but they are bright green.
  9. Bertrand, I attended the 1969 Antibes-Juan les Pins festival (and the Cecil Taylor appearances at the Maeght Foundation in nearby Saint-Paul de Vence that same week... Those were the days!). The Miles Davis group played the evening concerts. To the best of my recollection, Hutcherson-Land quintet played the afternoon concerts. Is this the same concert that came out in Japan on the 1969Miles CD? If so, this is one of my favorite Miles recordings ever.
  10. Hmm...might have to check out some of the live CCR tracks.
  11. My Bloody Valentine, and I'd lay money down that it was the loudest show of any mentioned in this thread.
  12. Are these bonus tracks on the box set?
  13. Motown got the Washington KUDU albums when he signed with them. The Benson was an A&M/CTI album. Motown and A&M are all part of the same family as Verve now.
  14. I know Grand Slam was a UK hip-hop magazine that folded after a few issues and left me hanging with an expensive unfulfilled subscription. Just another in a long line of magazines I've killed by subscribing.
  15. Did you download their download manager? IIRC, they use an .amz file that needs their manager to open.
  16. Is there anywhere to get discography info for these releases? I've bought several through eMusic and I'd buy more if I knew more of what I was getting. I couldn't find the info on their site, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?
  17. Interesting thought. I'd always chalked it up to Fantasy getting a better transfer for CD than BN or, in the case of originals, better pressings or some other voodoo. Of course, I guess between this and the RVG series on CD, both labels catalogs have been remastered by the same people and given similar pressings so a comparison is easier. I wonder why this is though.
  18. Holding out for the version that holographically recreates the session in my living room.
  19. Yes, and it's wonderful. The shorter set might seem overkill to some, but I think they're both worth hearing.
  20. From above review: "But 20 per cent less volume and 10 per cent more subtlety would have made a 30 per cent better show." So true. Pretty much everything I love about MBV was flattened out in the crush of volume.
  21. Would love to hear from someone who has been to multiple shows, one of which being the Chicago one. I'm really curious if the muddy sound at the Aragon Friday was the norm or the result of room acoustics. Considering I've been to loud and clear shows before, and considering this is so much about the sound, I was really disappointed that it wasn't much more than an extremely loud rumble with an occasional detail breaking through.
  22. Perhaps, but I think we'd be talking about the lightest surface scratches that you'd have to really be looking for to see. Nothing that would interrupt playing, unless you really worked at it.
  23. Bags Unlimited is where I got my sleeves like what Bev is talking about. Alphabetized the collection, used shelf dividers and am using an old dresser to house what used to cover an entire wall.
  24. Target Audio in Florida. Sells on eBay. I've spoken to him on the phone about a half dozen times and he's always been very helpful. (I also bought my turntable pre from him and a tube cage for my amp.)
  25. Pretty much. The songs are way too short for anything to really get happening so all you're left with is potential.
