  1. I can't remember when I last used checks, must be 20+ years ago. I'm not paying with cash in stores here in the Netherlands anymore either, I'm paying electronically by bank card; payments by smartphone are also pretty common here these days.
  2. Within the EU bank-to-bank transfers in euro are free, or at least they should be according to EU rules.
  3. When we still had checks/cheques here long ago the account number was indeed on them and I guess it's the same in the US.
  4. Shees man, calm down, it was just a general observation, not meant as a personal attack. If you want to use checks only, fine with me, no problem.
  5. It always amazes me that people in the US still use checks. Over here they're long gone, it's electronic payments, PayPal or credit cards only - and a variety of those and cash in stores.
  6. Got one in the EU. Thanks again for your offer, Brad! PM sent.
  7. I know, and I appreciate your offer. Meanwhile, someone in the EU has contacted me. I'll post an update as soon as I know more.
  8. Of course not. I got a booklet from Mosaic after I had sold the set. They were selling booklets for $10 at the time.
  9. Thanks Brad. Do you have any idea what they're generally asking for Mosaic sets, insanely high or moderate prices? There's also overseas shipping, which is quite expensive these days; that's why I was initially asking people living in the EU or UK.
  10. Thanks. I had the set, but sold it a couple of years ago in an effort to thin out my collection. Wrong decision...
  11. I'm looking for the Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Mosaic 4CD-set (MD4-194) in EXC or better condition. If anyone in the EU or UK is selling this set for a reasonable price, please PM me. Thanks. It's no problem if the booklet is missing, I already have a copy.
  12. Didn't know her and unfortunately don't remember her posts (haven't visited this board very often since I quit as a mod years ago), but this is all very sad and disturbing, someone dying so young. Somehow it feels like losing a friend. Thanks for posting the Dutch message (now deleted).
  13. Thanks Tom, found her homepage, but didn't see any mention; maybe it can only be seen by Facebook friends of hers.
  14. Whoa, that's bad and sad news. Do you have a link to the Facebook post?
  15. Watched the documentary on BBC4 last night and for the most part enjoyed it, but some things noted above bothered me too, such as the "asynchronization" of some images and music Larry pointed out. What especially bothered me was the fact that the (pre first Quintet) early 1950s and the "transition era" between Kind of Blue/Someday My Prince Will Come and the 1960s Quintet were ignored, and the relatively little time that was spent on the 1960s Quintet. The pseudo-Miles voice-over didn't come across very well either.
  16. That's good to hear, Brad
  17. It's a Savoy 3CD-set and unfortunately out of print. Chuck is right, get it if you find one - it's this one:
  18. According to a message from writer Ted Gioia on Facebook McCoy Tyner has died. Sad news, great pianist. Ted Gioia Facebook post
  19. Ah yes, I remember now what the "problem" was. Add to that that Chris always said exactly what he thought in no uncertain terms, which often rubbed some members the wrong way.
  20. Remember BNBB member Hard Bop? There was hardly a member he didn't disagree with Quite a few BNBB members didn't make the transition to this forum, and of the ones who did many have left in the ensuing years... Pity.
  21. At Hoffman you have 30 minutes to edit or delete a post. Works fine. Over here one or two disgruntled members (including one who's now deceased) deleted their posts and threads long after they were posted - I once deleted a thread because the discussion got very unpleasant and got a lot of flak for doing so . Personally, I prefer the Hoffman option.
  22. I got a lot of those 1990s digipaks that were mastered by Erick Labson, but didn't really like them; they're not bad, but compared with the 32XD and MVCI CDs the highs are too pronounced to my ears.
  23. Good to hear she's doing OK. Heart problems are a nuisance (I speak from experience). Hopefully she'll fully recover.
  24. I regularly imported CDs from Japan for my own collection and "32XD" meant that the list price was 3200 yen, not 32,000; likewise, 55XD meant 5500 yen, not 55,000 - a not insignificant difference
