  1. Several Select sets were hit by this and became instantly unavailable. However, it is my understanding that the Stuff Smith set was taken off the market because its license was revoked by Verve, not because of the stampers problem, that happened much later; the Smith set disappeared long before the sets whose stampers were thrown out.
  2. As far as I know they thought about it, but since no rights holders would allow it it's irrelevant.
  3. Except that they can't get permission for downloads from the owners of the rights.
  4. This is a really good compilation if the 2 big and excellent Bear Family CD-sets are too much of a good thing - it does have the hits, though: Heartaches and Harmonies 4CD-set (Rhino) The BF box Paul Secor mentioned, Classic Everly Brothers, is an excellent overview of their Cadence material. These are the 2 BF boxes I was referring to: The Price of Fame: 1960-1965 Chained to a Memory: 1966-1972
  5. If Mosaic is (going to be) wholly owned by Universal it might become difficult for them to get licensing agreements for recordings that are not owned by Universal. I don't think Sony or Warner will be eager to license stuff to the competition.
  6. Which means they're now also part of the Universal empire, or at least partially.
  7. They always have to get approval from the owners of the rights on all sorts of things before they can release a set and apparently this time it was more difficult. This is the e-mail from Mosaic: "We would like to thank you for the preorder for this important historical set. We also want to thank you for your patience. The approval process for this set is not our usual process and it has taken longer than anticipated. We do have final approval on all the print components and they are being shipped to the CD manufacturer. This will take about two - three weeks to manufacture. After receipt in our warehouse, the sets will be collated and that adds another week. Therefore the process will take about 4 weeks and we expect to ship mid-May."
  8. I guess too much hassle and unprofitable. I already had the right track on another CD.
  9. Yes, a live version instead of the original studio recording, if memory serves. Whatever you choose, the music is great. Getz in his prime in my opinion.
  10. Don't forget that the Mosaic 4LP-set only has the tracks that were recorded within the 1953-1954 time frame, while the (OOP) Hip-O 3CD-set has all the tracks from 1952-1955.
  11. The Hip-O CD-set includes the albums: – Stan Getz Plays – The Artistry of Stan Getz – Interpretations (partly reissued on More West Coast Jazz) – Interpretations #2 (partly reissued on More West Coast Jazz) – Interpretations #3 Mosaic discography (scroll down for the album listing)
  12. Good luck with the move. Buffalo seems to be nice, a former US contact of mine lives there.
  13. I have the 2CD Legacy Edition and the MFSL hybrid SACD of Kind of Blue, but never compared them, so I can't comment. Others did and preferred the MFSL because it sounded warmer. "Hybrid" means that the disc has both a CD-layer and an SACD-layer, so yes, a hybrid SACD can be played on most regular CD-players, though in my experience some older players, from the 1990s for example, occasionally do have problems, which modern CD-players usually don't have. I have a 3-year-old Naim CD5 XS CD-player and never had a problem.
  14. Mobile Fidelity stopped releasing CDs years ago, they only do hybrid SACDs and LPs nowadays. I've got most of their Miles Davis SACDs and they're terrific. Miles Davis hybrid MFSL SACDs
  15. Another hybrid SACD (stereo only) of Kind of Blue was released by Mobile Fidelity, in a limited edition: MFSL SACD
  16. Didn't see those fortunately - the stuff I read over there is mainly about jazz and classical, pre-war blues and some 1960s rock, that's all.
  17. For an April 1 joke I think it's quite funny. I wonder how many audio extremists will fall for it...
  18. The name of the label is Capitol, not Capital. If nothing has changed with Mosaic since Capitol was taken over by Universal, it seems likely that it is now partially owned by Universal. Universal Music is owned by Vivendi, which is based in France: Universal Music Group (UMG)
  19. The Capitol label and all its sub labels, including Blue Note, are owned by Universal since the latter acquired EMI a few years ago. To prevent them from becoming too big the European Commission ordered Universal to sell EMI's classical division, including Virgin Classics, and the Parlophone label (but not the Beatles catalogue), which were subsequently acquired by Warner Music.
  20. It has indeed been discussed before. Mosaic's licenses are for CD reissues only, they aren't allowed by the licensing labels to sell downloads or stream sets.
  21. Sad news. Great player.
  22. I posted the list on another board: Mosaic sale list
  23. Those Documents sets (not to be confused with the former Austrian and now UK blues label) are released by Membran, a European public-domain label. The ones I've heard sound terrible to me, lots of noise reduction and pumped-up highs.
