  1. Pete: i'm fascinated by the link you just posted, even though I really don't know what it is. I'd love it if you could explain.
  2. When you have a good memory, as I do about certain stuff, it's easy to forget how much you still forget. Since the JC board is going away, I was looking through some stuff I wanted to save, including a very old humor thread (I forget if it was "Ask steve(thelil)" or another one that I ran my mouth off on) . Anyway,on that OLD thread, I noticed a frequent and funny contributor who from an identical or VERY similar handle I recognized as being the artist who posts here as Jsngry. It was a name I recognized from this week on Organissimo, but had no recollection of from Jazz Corner. Small world. HOWEVER, Since it was an archived JC thread, it is possible that he posted under a DIFFERENT alias, but whose real name showed on the archives. (I know that has happened)
  3. It's all true. They really do fight back with album covers. And win.
  4. As of now Jan's coming, but it's still up in the air in view with a work issue. Thanks for the offer Kev. Don't think I'll be able to take you up on it.
  5. It was an odd choice of words for an attack against perceived tastelessness and/or unsophistication.
  6. That's so silly and petty. It's a single thread about JC people coming over. It's not like anybody is getting in the way of what you want to talk about. That's so silly and petty. It's a single thread about JC people coming over. It was clear from the start what it this thread was like. SO if it's not your cuppa entertainment, don't keep reading it.. It's not like anybody is joking about the new JC invasion on other threads...... (he said ignorantly, hoping that it was true.....)
  7. This board was founded out of a cyber-diaspora, so believe me, we understand. I do anyway. The only issues that might arise would be those stemming from blatant scab-picking, or any other sort of ad-hominem negativity. That ain't gonna work. But that holds true for all members, old and new. Other than that, y'all are welcome here, so start naming three peoples, fours and afts, and/or five basic food groups, all in the form of album covers whenever possible. EXTREMELY FUNNY......and thanks. BTW,I know I've mentioned this before, but since you mentioned naming three people, I'm very proud that I invented the "Name Three People" game . If you doubt that, (and why wouldn't you), it's actually stated on the very first Organissimo "Name Three People" post. So I guess I'm grateful to all of you who kept it alive, even though it's weird if I am and weird if I'm not.
  8. There's bound to be a little discomfort/tension when an established group is suddenly hit with a bunch of new people who know each other. But it's silly to talk about it it as a big thing, because the only thing that makes it a big thing is talking about it as if it's a big thing. BELIEVE me, former JCers are by no means any kind of homogeneous group any more than long time Orgers. We're just a group of basically diverse immigrants looking for new shores since our former island was destroyed by a digital Tsunami. (I blame Stallone). But my real point is that I don't speak for any other former JCers and I don't necessarily trust them and understand why you wouldn't either. Except Thorne. He's harmless, at worst.
  9. Good point. What a waste laughing at something that nobody else would think is funny (this post of mine, for instance)
  10. LENNY!!!! I'm quite happy for you to join me here as the new kids! But we're not allowed to talk about ourselves (or even each other) too much, unless we balance it with sufficient talk about album cover art. I actually don't believe this, but that's what some people on JC are saying about Organissimo, and I've made like 6 straight posts here without being a wise guy and I was about to explode. Whoa...Where the hell am I? I'm sorry, I thought I clicked on The Beer Thread but ended up here. LOL (it's ok to laugh here, right?)
  11. I never listened much to Feder, but my friend Jeff, who was a radio junkie was a big fan of his storytelling. So when I found his memoir at a used book store I bought it, I found it to be very revealing and well written

  15. Whoops. Didn't mean to be a tease! Back to the Cambridge (MASS) River Fest. I was so pumped to find out that it was this weekend. The first time I visited Cambridge specifically for an event (rather than for a brief visit while in Boston) it was the Riverfest, where I saw an excellent set by Jason Moran and the Bandwagon. I wanted to attend the next year, only to find out that they weren't having it that year. After that, it kind of escaped my consciousness. So it was a blast to learn that it's back and being held on the same weekend I had planned to be staying in Cambridge for something else.
  16. I'll be in Cambridge this weekend because an old friend and bandmate is promoting the annual Across The Ages Dance Project in Cambridge and I'll be attending the Friday night performance. Natch, I checked out what else is going on in the area this weekend and was thrilled to see this lineup at the Jazz Stage o the Cambridge River Fest on Saturday. Very interesting lineup: CREATE: Jazz, R&B, and World Music Stage LINEUP AND INVORMATION Location: Weld Boathouse at JFK Street (Riverside) Coordinator: The Jazz Club at the Multicultural Arts Center Host: Shelley Neill, Executive Director, Multicultural Arts Center 12pm Tre Corda AgitatedCatMusic.com TIM RAY -PIANO, EUGENE FRIESEN - CELLO & GREG HOPKINS - TRUMPET and FLUGELHORN Whether reinventing jazz standards, breathing fresh life into classical repertoire, or premiering their own original works, Tre Corda generates a compelling sound all its own. Their works blend composition and improvisation in new and unexpected ways, using the musical vocabulary of classical composers like Bartok and Stravinsky, as well as songs and ideas from the worlds of jazz and popular musics. Cellist Eugene Friesen’s dynamic rhythms and incredible array of bowing and plucking techniques, trumpeter Greg Hopkins’s virtuosic leaps and outrageous genre-bending phrases, and pianist Tim Ray’s lyric melodicism and two-fisted pyrotechnics - these are just a few of the ways Tre Corda concerts have satisfied and delighted audiences with both jazz and classical expectations. More info on Tre Corda at AgitatedCatMusic.com. 1:15pm Modern Impression: The Ron Savage Trio Personnel: RON SAVAGE - DRUMS, RON MAHDI - BASS, JETRO DASILVA - Piano The Ron Save Trio features three outstanding musicians. Ron Mahdi who has performed with Roy Haynes, Chet Baker, Donald Harrisonand others, Jetro daSilva, known for a 10-year stint as Whitney Houston's pianist, and Modern Impression marks the group's efforts to seamlessly mesh music from throughout the African diaspora including; bebop, swing, gospel, African R & B and Brazilian music into a fresh new sound. 2:30pm Marco Pignataro Jazzet www.marcopignataro.net/ MARCO PIGNATARO – TENOR & SOPRANO SAX, LASZLO GARDONY– PIANO, ALLAN CHASE -ALTO & BARI SAX - MATT MARVUGLIO – FLUTE, JOHN LOCKWOOD – BASS, YORON ISRAEL – DRUMS Marco Pignataro, who in addition to his latest CD Sofia's Heart and work with Eddie Gomez, John Patitucci, Ben Street, George Garzone, Billy Drummond and others, is also the Managing Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute at Berklee College of Music. Matt Marvuglio, Dean of the Performance Division at Berklee College of Music, along with the brilliant Allan Chase, the master drummer Yoron Israel and exceptional John Lockwood round out this unique assemblage of master musicians. 3:45pm Kevin Harris Project www.kevinharrisproject.com/ PERSONNEL: KEVIN HARRIS – PIANO, RON MAHDI – BASS, JERRY BERGONZI – TENOR SAXOPHONE, TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON - DRUMS When the unmistakable musical influences of Thelonious Monk, Danilo Perez, and Charlie Parker intersect with J.S. Bach, Scott Joplin, and the folkloric rhythms of Cuba, could one possibly conceptualize the celebration that occurs at that intersection? Boston-based jazz pianist Kevin Harris plays a distinctive combination of traditional and contemporary music that seeks to explore such a crossroads. Jazztimes magazine says “Harris possesses a spare style and gentle touch” and the Boston Globe quotes that “Harris has worked to refine the creative push and pull of a music that demands it. Drummer, composer, producer and clinician, Terri Lyne Carrington has worked with luminaries like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, David Sanborn, Joe Sample, Cassandra Wilson, Clark Terry, Dianne Reeves and others. 5:00pm Joel Larue Smith Afro Cuban Jazz Trio http://www.joellaruesmith.com/ JOEL LARUE SMITH – PIANO, FERNANDO HUERGO – BASS, TAGO MICHELIN - DRUMS Smith's voice resonates strongly, clearly presenting his concept as composer, performer, and arranger with focused intensity. His compositions dance around Afro-Cuban rhythms and traditional jazz ideals with a knowledgeable movement that reflects a solid foundation in both worlds. His ideas often place one foot in each genre, placing his compositions firmly in clave while his band interprets them with the loose freedom of swing."(Chip Boaz, The Latin Jazz Corner). The Joel Larue Smith Trio has performed both nationally and internationally. Most recently, the trio has performed in the 2010 & 2011 Guatemala International Jazz Festival; the 2011 Costa Rican International Jazz Festival; the 2010 Hellenic Music Festival, Athens; Jazz Dock, Prague; The Blue Frog, Mumbai; in a 2010 Czech Republic Tour.
  17. Jimmy Cobb was just in my neck of the woods for a birthday celebration show at Smoke, but we weren't able to make it. But his appearance and Kevin's post makes me remember that it seems like great drummers tend to have great longevity both in life and careers. Or maybe it's just OUR great luck that Roy Haynes, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Cobb, Louis Bellson, Paul Motian and Chico Hamilton - all who did big things in the 1950's (Motian joined Bill Evans in 1959) - kept making fine music for decades afterwards - all of them in fact, still doin' it at the dawn of this millennium.

  20. Happy Birthday, Jim. Hoping you celebrate it organically!
  21. I didn't mean to challenge Jim or ask him to defend his decisions in any way. Nor did I complain about deletions. I honestly didn't know what the reference to people bringing old battles here was about. (I may not be an innocent, but I certainly am capable of cluelessness!!!) A big Kumbaya to Jim and my new and old friends ! (he said from a markedly non-crouch-ing posture) . Onward over the high road!!!
  22. Ronnie Barker Hound Dog Taylor John Butcher I have learned that this isn't the place for self-referential posts, but as a JC guy who expects to be an Organissimo guy, I just want to mention that I'm proud of having invented this game, and tickled that you Organissimo folks have taken it and run with it in such a big way! OK Butch Morris Joe Morris Roger Maris
  23. I feel lucky to have had several chances to see/hear him play live. Besides making beautiful music, he seemed like a very nice man.
  24. I may be missing something. Who is bringing old wars here? It seems that O people are commenting negatively about JC people bringing old friendships here!
  25. To paraphrase my favorite Sam Malone line (which he said about himself!) "It's a sad state of affairs when Steve Reynolds is the voice of reason" (Translation for those who don't get my Kansan/JC humor: I love Steve Reynolds)
