  1. Is Bob Ferraris still on bass? He was my teacher for a few years, what a monster! Please tell him Geoff says hi and that I want my "Jazzology" book back. EDIT: Sorry, I just checked your myspace page and saw that Bob is indeed still in the band. He sold me a copy of your "Mainstreamism" CD a few years back. I love the "Mama's Little Baby Loves Shortnin' Bread" thing on Caravan.
  2. Bet there are no bonus tracks on that one. You are correct, sir.
  3. FYI, there was also a Japanese Verve mini LP version of "Nothing But The Blues", too. I paid somewhere around $20-25 for it on ebay a few years back. I like this session.
  4. I see your point, but would like to add I've really enjoyed the Jimmy Witherspoon and have listened to it repeatedly. Me too! That's a great album and kudos to Mosaic for reissuing it. I can't comment on the Wein album as I don't own that one.
  5. $1 each?!? I am interested in the Hawkins CD. You do paypal?

    Fred Jackson

I like 'Hootin' and Tootin' quite a bit, great album. However, my wife, who is not a jazz fan at all, LOVES this album. In fact, I'd wager that she listens to it more often than I do.
  7. Adam, I received the Lawrence Brown disc yesterday. Very fast shipping! I just wanted to say thanks again. The CD and packaging were in excellent condition and the music is fantastic!
  8. You do have to check the "Add message to sent box" at the bottom in order to have a record of a sent message (it used to be automatic). Ahhh, thanks for that tip!
  9. I am sending a PM re: Lawrence Brown - Slide Trombone (Verve Elite Edition 1999) - $15 Thanks! EDIT: I think I sent you a message but it's not showing up in my "sent" box. I can do Paypal, just need your account address. Thanks again!
  10. Today I'm digging "Blues, Boogie, & Bop: The 1940s Mercury Sessions". Right now it's Disc 3, "Bucktown Boogie" by Jay McShann.
  11. The Complete Master Jazz Piano Series - "Arkansas Blues" by Cliff Jackson
  12. If I recall correctly, there is an excellent Hackett session included in the Mosaic "Classic Capitol Jazz" box. Disc 5 I believe.
  13. Bummer. I own 5 of the titles currently available and they are all fantastic.
  14. I think this is a great idea. However, I can't see myself letting go of any of my big boxes. I would entertain trading a Select though. I have the Grachan Moncur (I believe that one is oop?) that I never really warmed up to. If anyone is interested in a trade for another Select, PM me. I'd be interested in The Pacific Piano Trios, The Cooper/Shank, The Art Pepper, The Sidney Bechet, hell there are plenty that interest me, what have you got? EDIT: FYI, I already own the Cohn, Newman, and Green set..
  15. Yes! Love that bari sound. Ernie is also featured on a session with Sidney Bechet from 1938. I'm not sure who originally released it but it's available on the Bechet Mosaic Select.
  16. FYI, if you want to hear some of these oop sets but not necessarily own them, the library is still free.

    Upgrading iTunes

I like to add all of the side men for each album in the "album artist" section (ie, Lester Young (ts), Count Basie (p), etc.). This allows me to make smart playlists of specific musicians whether or not they are leaders. I always copy that info and paste into the "lyrics" section. It works well on my older ipod and I can always check the personnel for any track.
  18. Amazing set but I agree. My solution was to take those clear plastic discs that come on the top and bottom of blank cd stacks and place one behind each CD thus protecting them from the block of foam. It works great!
  19. Hey! I said Berry in post #47. I like it.
  20. Impossible task! OK, here's three I listen to alot... Lionel Hampton Victor Sessions H.R.S. Chu Berry and some runner ups/honorable mentions... Hardy & Quebec Blue Note Verve/Clef Charlie Ventura & Flip Phillips Capitol Jazz Ellington Small Groups Verve Hodges
  21. You're welcome. Enjoy! It's a great CD.
  22. I have the Esquire All-American Hot Jazz Sessions CD (Bluebird/Victor) and I love it. There are some really great combos on there but I especially like the two tracks that feature Armstrong, Ellington, and Hodges. Can anyone tell me if Armstrong & Hodges ever recorded anything else together? Thanks.
  23. Wow, 44 views and no replies. Umm, OK. Thanks for making me feel welcome. If anyone needs me I'll be lurking around trying to figure out how to delete this embarassing shit.
