Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?

Shorty Rogers! -
I agree, this set is fantastic. I have been hoping for years that Mosaic would reissue the Keynote collection. There is an amazing wealth of great music there that's dying to see the light of day. I managed to find the LP set issued by Mercury through the library system but I'd pay top dollar to have the entire collection remastered on CD. I'm sure I'm not alone here.

BUMP! I've been listening to his Commodore recordings alot in the last few weeks. Does anyone know if his "Strings" albums have been reissued on CD?
-
No shit. Get a clue.

Not to be a stickler but some of the hats posted are not trilbies. Many are just fedoras or stingy brim fedoras and some are fedoras styled as porkpies. For more info on all things hat, check out The Fedora Lounge

Yesterday I suprisingly stumbled across a few 78s. "Mood Indigo" by Duke's Blanton/Webster band and "Fat Boy Rag" by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. I grabbed them just as keepsakes since I don't have anyway to play them. Fortunately, I already have the music on CD so I'm familiar with them.

My Jacquet disc arrived yesterday. Simply an awesome CD for the price. I had some later Jacquet stuff (mostly Verve) that I really enjoyed so this was a no brainer and it does not dissapoint at all.

This session is available on the CD "Fats Waller & His Buddies" an RCA/Victor Bluebird disc that is OOP but can be found used for pretty cheap. I think I paid around $6 for my copy.
-
I saw this and also ordered the Jacquet disc. It appears that RCA Victor has released this material on CD at least once but I would guess that the Mosaic will sound better and is probably a better price than what I'd pay for a used copy OOP. How's the music? I'm guessing I won't be dissapointed since the other Jacuet stuff I have from around that era is great.

This is good advice and I've been trying to do this as well (unsuccessfully!). I currently have 9006 "Jazz" songs in my ipod/itunes (99% sourced from CD or vinyl) and the other day I created a smart playlist of jazz songs with zero plays. That list has 1815 songs on it. I've been shuffling that list and I believe I'll feel somewhat better about my Jazz habit if I know that I have listened to everything in my collection a t least once.

At the risk of looking like more of a douche than I already do, I'd like to apologize again and I will now return to my position of inactive participant.

I offered a suggestion and was only trying to help. Sorry, next time I won't bother.

Not true . High speed digitizers are available , at a price , but even if it were true that digitizing had to be done in real-time , how would this be "the rub" ? If you're too busy to listen to a tape as it's being digitized , then you're likely too busy to listen to the resulting digital copy , so why bother with digitization at all ? I'd love to see one of these "high speed" digitizers. Can you show me one? Well I could , only then I'd be doing your homework for you Ow. I still call bullshit. I really don't see how it's possible but since I don't own any cassettes, I don't give a rat's ass either way, Chas. Cheers.

I'd love to see one of these "high speed" digitizers. Can you show me one? If you were to convert a tape at 2x speed to a digital file it would require you to adjust it after the fact with software, otherwise it would be a 2x speed? Sort of goes against the "cheap" concept. Listen, I don't have a problem with analog sources, champ. Didn't mean to give that impression but I haven't owned a cassette tape or player in nearly 20 years mainly because they sound like shit to me. I guess I was confused about the guy's question because to me, "cheap" doesn't usually equate to "new". What the fuck do I know? I'll go back to lurking now and leave the posting to the experts.

I see. I thought you asked for cost effective solutions but what you're really asking for is for someone else to do your homework and comparative shop for you. In that case, my suggestion is to start embracing technology sooner. Good luck. The rub of analog technology is that transferring to digital must always be done in real time, ie, play the tape while recording it another format. There is no alternative.

If cost is an issue why not check local garage sales or maybe craig's list? At this point, if you can find a tape deck used, it'll probably be pretty cheap.

Nice. I love the Bud Freeman sides that are included on this set. Some of my favorite stuff by him. -
