  1. And the Hawes, and the Carter, and . . . . Nice haul, Tom!
  2. Or about $32.40 at today's exchange rate PLUS delivery to the US (for some of us ). Makes the Amazon UK deal even sweeter.
  3. We get attacked by an affectionate female lab! ... and she is somewhere in her house right now, "getting that ball..." Sweet baby. Ha! I just came from downstairs, and that's exactly what she's doing right now! She's OBSESSED with that frickin' tennis ball.
  4. And what do you use when Jim, Joe, Randy, AND Allen Lowe all invade your home?
  5. Got mine for $33.14! (in all seriousness-thanks for the tip, man!) That's because you're more adept at foreign currency arbitrage. And dude, don't call me "man."
  6. Don't know what's up with that--my preorder is still pending, and shows a shipping estimate of October 13th. Could be that the product listing is in error, and that the set will be available through Amazon US but has been delayed. Or, it could be that it will NEVER be available through Amazon US. In any event, I just ordered one from Amazon UK for roughly the same delivered price as offered by Amazon US, and the UK site has them IN STOCK. EDIT: About 40 minutes later, and the Amazon UK order is already designated as "shipping soon." What did they charge you for shipping? Total with shipping was $33.44. Amazon UK has a function when you check out that will convert the charges into US dollars (based on the current exchange rate). The total includes a small service charge imposed by Amazon (which your credit card company would normally charge you anyway if you purchased in pounds). The conversion is optional, but the total for me with the conversion was $33.44, so I went for it. Also, keep in mind that when you provide your US address at checkout, the 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) will be deducted from the product price, so that the price in pounds actually will be less than what is shown on the product page.
  7. I cancelled my own order and went with the Brits. Amazon UK orders typically take 5-10 days to get to me, so given that the price is basically the same, I went with the sure thing. And it's on its way to me at this very moment.
  8. Not to mention that I'm Amazon's largest stockholder. (I really have to get started on that diet. )
  9. And 14 1/2 hours later, notification that it has "dispatched." Go for it, folks (organissimo referral-fee link): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lady-Day-Complete-...4013&sr=8-2
  10. Don't know what's up with that--my preorder is still pending, and shows a shipping estimate of October 13th. EDIT: About 40 minutes later, and the Amazon UK order is already designated as "shipping soon." One UK Marketplace seller now has this listed on the US Amazon site for $27.16 brand-new (plus $2.98 shipping), for anyone who wants to get this for the best price yet. Amazon US, itself, still seems not to be selling this, so I'd highly recommend that those who preordered it make inquiries about the status of their orders and--if necessary--make other arrangements (e.g., Amazon UK).
  11. More on the OP box here, and the Ella box here.
  12. Amazon US now has the following statement on the page for this set: Don't know what's up with that--my preorder is still pending, and shows a shipping estimate of October 13th. Could be that the product listing is in error, and that the set will be available through Amazon US but has been delayed. Or, it could be that it will NEVER be available through Amazon US. 13. So what's the bottom line on the sound of these newer Coltrane Prestige boxes compared to the old 16-disc box? Anyone do any A-B comparisons? I'm generally a big fan of late-'80s/early-90's Fantasy transfers/mastering, and I'd be curious to know if--and in what way(s)--the sound of these newer boxes has been noticeably improved.
  14. Nope, not Memran (thank God). If you read around here once again, you'll see that we are talking about two different sets. Yep, and this is definitely a Sony issue--look carefully at the photo of the back of the set on the various Amazon sites, and note that on the Amazon UK site, the label is listed as Columbia.
  15. Because it's apparently being released by a European division of Sony/BMG, similarly to the 1930s Ellington, etc. boxes released last year: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Duke-Ellington-...311&sr=1-31
  16. Ditto what everyone else has said. Many thanks, Cindy!
  17. Weston Select is now in "Last Chance."
  18. They DO sell the big boxes in sequential order--i.e., with your box, they HAVE sold close to 2,000.
  19. Also, the photo of the back cover reveals the Sony, Columbia, and Legacy logos. Thanks for the heads-up!
  20. I've discerned that.
  21. Kinda surprised that this one hasn't already been mentioned:
  22. As if that ever stopped you before.
  23. Mosaic cofirmed a few years ago that the Selects are NOT distributed in numerical order (in fact, the newer Selects aren't even numbered, and the older ones were mechanically numbered during manufacture). The individually numbered big boxes, however, ARE generally sold in numerical order (they are assigned the next sequential number by computer--and that number is hand-written in the booklet--at the time of sale).
  24. Allen, I would try to explain it to you, but it involves quantum mechanics, existentialism, and a working knowledge of ancient Sumerian gerunds. I don't think you're quite up to it.
