Thelonious Monk's playing on the Columbia albums
randissimo replied to Guy Berger's topic in Artists
I am of the same feeling.. Charlie Rouse to me always played great and especially with Monk. Rouse's solos were always a delight,, consistantly creative and full of color, humor, and stories.. -

I have to admit I haven't gotten to the last four songs yet because I keep playing "Traces" and "Danco de Alma" over and over. Jim, your all-around keyboard (B3, synth, etc*) playing on these two tracks in particular is so beautiful it just creates a wonderfully melancholy atmosphere. As far as effect goes, I'd put it right up there with Herbie Hancock's "Dolphin Dance." It really is that good!!! Joe, your acoustic guitar solo would make Jobim and Gilberto proud. Just beautiful. And Randy, your drumming--and that sounds like too insensitive a word to describe what you're doing back there. Just carrying the beat, caressing it, allowing the rest of the music to float around while you anchor the rhythm...... Dammit, I hate it when I get all mushy-gushy like this, but it's been a while since music affected me like this. A fantastic job, guys! *No, I don't know how to play an etc. I might not even recognize one if I did. Thanks Al.. Love your descriptions of the music.. -
organissimo wants to play in YOUR TOWN
randissimo replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
We'd love to play the west coast.. Just not much developing in that direction for us at this time.. We'll need plenty of gigs because it would be an expensive trip... Right now Chicago is about as far west as we can afford to go.. There's for sure plenty of places to play up and down the California coast, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.." http://www.jazz-clubs-worldwide.com/docs/californ.htm http://www.jazz-clubs-worldwide.com/docs/arizona.htm http://www.jazz-clubs-worldwide.com/docs/nevada.htm http://www.jazz-clubs-worldwide.com/docs/oregon.htm http://www.jazz-clubs-worldwide.com/docs/wash.htm -
All together now... "Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight gonna grab some afternoon delight. ... Me - I was listening to 'Agharta' at the time I was listening to Weather Report By the summer of 1972 after starving in a band house, with a krazy and failed rock act known as Stark Raven for almost a year in Ann Arbor, I was diillusioned and had pretty much lost interest in the glitter of the rock/pop scene, and when I heard Weather Report, Chick Corea, Mile's album Bitches Brew, Herbie Hancock, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra I was absolutely blown away and started listening to jazz and the fusion evolution and only listening at times to a few on the rock/pop scene like Stevie Wonder, Traffic, Jethro Tull, Zappa, Beefheart, King Crimson, Steely Dan, and funk bands like James Brown, Funkadelics, Dreams, Cold Blood, Tower Of Tower, and Earth, Wind, & Fire. Back then some of my friends and mostly girlfriends sometimes would dawg me for not knowing or caring what was happening with the rock and pop music scenes.. One girlfriend in 1976 couldn't believe I didn't even know who Thin Lizzy or Twisted Sister was!

Do you know who has put this out so we could track it for airplay? We'd love to check it out. Tom Gagliardi Hey Tom, it's on Big O which is our own label and is going to be released to the radio stations sometime in August. Contact Jim for a play copy. -

And what about my driver's license? Look--you stay at my house, a few personal items go "missing." That's just the way it works. So what's the big deal? -

I picture McCain marching around to John Philip Sousa LPs, then maybe some Jackie Gleason for those intimate times. that is very funny but probably closer to the truth than not! I picture John McCain at a wedding reception requesting either "Feelings" or "Tie A Yellow Ribbon".. -
Just picked up my mail and to my delight discovered a package containing a CD! Thanks Johnny

I saw Jethro Tull in Detroit in 1969 on their first American tour. I was blown away!

Eugene is a true innovator on the cello and has serious technique.. He played a solo Bartok piece that was just insane!
