  1. Don't look now but he's started his thread about why people are posting here again. I guess he didn't piss off enough people the first time around!

    Eddie Higgins

Jim, thanks for sharing this information. Higgins' recordings on Venus and Sunnyside are top drawer, IMO!!
  3. Lon, Can anyone have too much Hodges?
  4. I'm up for that Johnny Hodges set. Its in the bag!!!
  5. I have purchased a few of their sets and am pleased with their products. The sound is quite nice and the bookets very well researched. The boxes are much sturdier than the Mosaic Selects. Maybe not quite as classic as Mosaic but the price differential is considerable. Recently got the Wardell Grey and Dexter Gordon boxes and they are well done. Previously picked up a few anthology boxes, I forgot the titles, but they too are worthy of purchase.
  6. Looks like the gang's all here! If I see Pharorock over here, I'm going over the wall!!
  7. Sent them an order about a month or so ago and have been unable to reach them. Looks like I took it up the keyster to the tune of 40 bucks. Adios dinero!!!
  8. Berigan, my fellow "Fuddy Duddy", I called today and the set is available for pre-orders and will ship some time in May!
  9. You may have to start pimping and booking numbers as well. These things will not be cheap!
  10. Wrong Again,Purple Herman! I have purchased Imports that have extra tracks on them and have still re-produced the original cover art. The information on the extra tracks usually is in the insert packaged with the disc inside the sleeve.
  11. I'd love to hear that story! BTW, funny to see avatar posted of "Have No Fear". Got it in the mail the other day, its a great album!
  12. I would think that because of the volume of Garner material that is easily available that maybe this set would have a very limited market, unless they are able to find a lot of rare recordings.
  13. Watch that "fuddy-duddy" stuff, sonny boy!
  14. That is a valid criticism Brad. I had to go scratching through AMG to reference the tracks to the albums, but the booklet is otherwise really interesting.
  15. What about Lee Morgan's "The Rajah"? Took me a long time to find a copy of this one!
  16. This news will please a lot of people, including yours truly!
  17. Maybe he's the same guy with an expanded vocabulary!
  18. Recieved the set today. The sound is fabulous! Nice Package and booklet too. Of course the whole thing would be a lot sweeter for the price that CD Universe is posting, but I guess things will even out eventually. I'm still glad I got the set, the music is the main thing and it is top notch!
  19. Think I'll spin some Jutta tonight as well. I have some of her work captured on a German Jazz festival set from the 50's which was released by Bear Family, pretty nice stuff. Like any good artist, her work lives on.
  20. I also spoke to him today and he seems willing to make some sort of concession, not sure exactly what at this point. For all the hype, I think I'll wait and see before I pre-order something in this price category in the future...
  21. Atomic or Regular Wedgie?! Please no Wet Willie or Purple Hermans! What the hell is Weizen doing with that big can of Popeye's favorite anyway?
  22. Please don't mention that word "Spinach" or I'll get in trouble again!!!
  23. Today spent sometime listening to vocals for some reason... SUE RANEY-"Quietly There" "Sings the Music of Mancini" Maxine Sullivan "Together" Chris Connor-"Sings the George Gershwin Almanac of Song" Karin Krog-"One on One"
  24. There is a lot in what you say, Brad. It is worth pursuing. I had the same info as many of us as to the "exclusivity" of this set. On the other hand, CD Universe does tend to jump the gun on some of their advance orders. I ordered those Django discs as well some time ago and still nothing. Still its worth a telephone call and like you say it may lead to some type of re-imbursement if Stateside is a reputable outfit, even if they are selling Art Ensemble discs now.
