Yes sir, to all of the above.

On the AAJ forum, excuse me if I missed it here, Chris reports the death of Karl Knudsen, owner of Storyville. You can view it at http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread....s=&threadid=311. I know from personal experience, he was a pain in the ass to deal with, but we all owe KEK a debt. Thanks Karl. And thanks to CA for the notice. I changed an o to an e in his name in my edit.

I still think the notes read as Bob intended, and dig the device.

Thirty-five years ago one of my employees nicknamed me "Nails" as in "hard as nails". I think that is fair, as I think "ingrates" is fair. My first choice was whiners, and toned it down to ingrates.

For $7 buy the damn thing. If you ever find the Savoy with KD, Max and Griff, grab it.

After reading the paragraph in question, I stand by my first posting. I like the use of the first sentence and do not believe it is an accident. There may be plenty of reasons to dislike the BB notes, but this seems like a bunch of ingrates to me. You get updated masterings by RVG (don't have to like or buy 'em), lower prices, original notes AND new notes. Complaints make me sad. We are our own worst enemy.

Is that your butt or my thumb I smell?

Dexter Gordon - The Squirrel:Live at Montmartre
Chuck Nessa replied to Dmitry's topic in Recommendations
Very good Dexter, never noticed if it was mono or stereo, it is out of print, get it. -
Back to the original post. I don't have the disc in question, so I can't answer the question, BUT if the next sentence is something like "with trio dates the landscape narrows", I can dig the repeat. Without knowing where it went, the first sentence is useless.

So it's worth the trip, huh? I know it's a lot less busy and commercialized- is that the draw? Less people and more nature? What you said, and it is around 1100 feet higher so the flora and fauna are different. You drive through some beautiful meadows on the way - we saw elk grazing. We arrived too late for sunrise, but stayed 'til dark. Lodge and cabins available. We stayed overnight on the south rim too.

RIAA offers amnesty to downloaders, but you must
Chuck Nessa replied to The Mule's topic in Miscellaneous Music
First, I want to say file sharing has damaged all of the music biz, large and small. Bob Koester is convinced he has lost at least 10% a year to downloading. For indies, 10% is the difference between losing money and losing more money. More importantly, file sharing has nurtured a generation of young folk who think music should be free and is their "right". RIAA is really just a lobby for a few industry giants and have reacted badly to the situation. I have no clue about the proper response but they just hurt their own cause. -
André Previn (p) Al Hendrickson (g) Red Mitchell (B) Irving Cottler (d) according to Bruyninckx. Note the smirk above is the unintended result of the letter b in brackets.

Universal Music to Cut CD Prices to Under $13
Chuck Nessa replied to Claude's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I thought I posted this somewhere on this board, but here goes again: While this is great for the consumers, I'm sure lots of indie labels are scrambling to see how they might survive if this price structure becomes the norm. It has been tough selling new recordings when you have to compete with Miles, Monk, Trane and Rollins on cheap OJC and RVGs, but this may be the final nail in the coffin for some operations. A label like PI could be in deep doo doo. This will probably end the "major label" careers of a number of artists as well. -

Hans, I'm now selling sets numbered in the 2100s. The box is supposed to be limited to 2500 but there are a few extra from pressing overruns so the last number will probably be around 2530. Chaney, dream on. I'll eat a chicken in your honor tonight.

I really like Sonny's sound from this period.

Sell your Ultimate Blue Train, it's obsolete
Chuck Nessa replied to Soul Stream's topic in Re-issues
Probably not the same, and I'll bet money the new one is much better. -
Worse than "shit for money".!!!!

Going in the wrong direction, I urge everyone to visit the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

I just wanted to post a thank you to members who used the sale to purchase our Art Ensemble box. During the sale True Blue ordered 46 sets. Yippee!!

So what did you get? Or what did she give you? Or, is that just none of my business? What he got was some of my "business". Nice to see someone picking up on Ericka - a very fine piece.

IIRC, the original list was on BN. It is currently active at AAJ. http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread....0&highlight=MPS I have Japanese versions of CT/Black Forest and Gittin' To Know Y'all on the way from Dusty Groove.

This is McLean's first record. The company quickly went out of business and Jubilee wound up with the master and reissued it. It was later reissued many times on Roulette, Trip, Fresh Sounds, etc. The original is very rare and the 2 copies I have seen were beat up. This item might go for a lot more than the current bid.

The set seems to be fairly comprehensive for the '30s (eliminating alts and transcriptions), then they start skipping sessions and individual tracks. They make one interesting mistake - they list 12 tracks from two GNP lps as recorded at Gene Norman's Crescendo club in early 1950. This is a deception created by GNP. The lps consisted of Standard Transcription titles with audience noises dubbed in. I spotted this in the early '80s and mentioned it to Gene Norman. He just got a blank look on his face and denied it. Anyway, this seems to be a very good collection if you want an inexpensive way to get some prime Tatum.

The importance/strength of the music outweighs any mastering variations. Get the music!!!! Worry about the details of remastering later. Damn this is depressing.
