  1. From recent email exchanges with Ben Young (late of Verve and recently with BMG), he was involved with the project. His connection with WKCR didn't hurt. He does quality work from my experiences.
  2. Since we have more than one Chris here, I had to check the member list to make sure we were talking about my pinko cyber friend. After all that work (about 10 pages didn't load) I should admonish the group to never pair the words "many" and "returns" to someone in the record or book business. Happy birthday, you handsome devil.
  3. Art Ensemble of Chicago - Urban Magic
  4. "Concision and relative ambiguity" are wonderful tools.
  5. Happy to astound anyone. As I stated in my earlier post, I've purchased this music in damn near any format created. I did not trash the music and much of my listening is to music I consider "not essential".

    Albert Ayler

Charles Tyler told me he and Ayler lived together in NY for a while. John Coltrane would come by and pay the rent. Charles called him Al.
  7. Have you noticed any itching or swelling?
  8. Google lists 77,000 hits, but you don't have to go that deep to get a decent bio.
  9. Oconomowoc! No songs yet for this Wisconsin town, but there otta be! Just look at all those damn os.
  10. I would have voted for Hackensack.
  11. The kind souls looking for my Marsh cd and the Uptown Bird/Diz discs will have to wait 'til the first quarter of "04. Transfer engineer problems with the Bird/Diz (sorted out now) and personal stuff delaying my "mix/edit" of the Marsh. Sorry for the delays, but the delays make the music better. CN
  12. Had a couple 10" and 12" lps, the Mosaic lps and now the BN set. Very fine playing in the "sewing machine" mode. Worthwhile, but not essential.
  13. My hubkaphone/hubkawall message was not a joke. After receiving a few orders for this disc, I institute the same no postage US/reduced overseas postage I offered when Snurdy was new.
  14. I've been told it was smack.
  15. Nobody wants to talk about the "elephant in the room". Whatever the official papers say, drugs were the end of LY. They may have also been partly responsible for his blossoming.
  16. Just a note to say in the early days ('66-'68) Lester Bowie repeatedly mentioned KD, on the Bohemia dates, as a MF. He made me relisten to this sides. The recent domestic RVGs are masterful.
  17. Knew all that, but I still might be a monkey's uncle.
  18. The current cd of Full House has alternates of Come Rain Or Come Shine and S.O.S, and a version of Born To Be Blue.
  19. I am absolutely stunned by the negative comments about Shades of Redd, All Seeing Eye and Star Bright. Any person with experience playing a wind instrument should be blown away by these discs, let alone listeners. It makes me question WTF you guys listen for.
  20. You go Jim!
  21. That's what we get!
  22. After I finish with the Cubs this year I think I will completely swear off sports. I am sick of all these whining millionairs - that includes college and some high school teams. Maybe the yatzee tournement will attract me. Soon I'm gone, and life will be simpler.
  23. You nailed that one, Maren. Sent your app to the Times.
  24. Someone else here has heard it. Had the lp in the early '70s, but now listen to it on cd - Saravah SHL 1018.
  25. When I started buying 45s, around 1955, they were 79 cents. They went up to 98 by the time tie 60s arrived.
