  1. My first 2 choices are by Lee Konitz - An Image (on Verve) and Strings for Holiday (on Enja). A sleeper is The Sensual Sound of Sonny Stitt arranged by Ralph Burns.
  2. You give 1917 'til about '45 one category. Look at all the categories you buy. How many are there? Add to that the entries you don't buy but added for the rest of us. It is a silly list with no real understanding of the art form. Ken and his trumpet playing friend would be proud. Sorry, but you asked the question and I've resisted until your query.
  3. This brings up the question of what Dookie has in his bathroom.
  4. The 3cd version is one of the great documents of improvised music from the 20th century. The single disc version is pretty good too.
  5. Got Chris earlier, but "nothing but goodstuff" for Maren. Go for it!
  6. I live about 45 miles from the home of Amway! Grand fucking Rapids, MI. Everything in the town is named after the 2 founders and the state republican party is/or has been run by one of the wives. These creeps are amazing, and the kids keep it going.
  7. Very close, but no cigar. One week later the quartet was back at Rudy's recording "First Meditations".
  8. No problem with the "translucent hazy finish" ones you mention, just the old clear ones. I think plastic engineers/chemists, at the time, called it "molecular migration". As stated, I switched in 1977. That was the year the pressing plant I used (as did ECM and Artist House) started importing them from Japan. As I remember, they cost $.07 each. I used them on all my pressings/repressings until they went out of business. I purchased them in bulk for my personal collection.
  9. I have used "rice paper" sleeves on all my vinyl since 1977. This means probably 30,000 of 'em overall. Not one has ever adhered to a record in any way and I certainly used to cram them together. I did have that trouble with the poly lined paper sleeves before I switched.
  10. I'm certainly not a Peterson fan BUT the Eldridge dates with OP are my favorite Roy sides of the '50s and beyond, no question. I've had these on 10", 12", Japanese vinyl reissues, etc. The Amy is worthwhile but Katanga was the best of it. I had all the Pearson on lp in my vinyl BN completist days and will pass on the Select.
  11. I think the Avids are of the Army Air Force band broadcasts on the BBC. I have a copy of LPM-6100. Fancy ring bound package - not bad shape if I remember correctly. I faintly remember some RCA lps from the '70s or '80s called something like "Chesterfield Broadcasts" which might duplicate the material. A quick check of AMG just confused me. Maybe I'll have time to sort it out in the morning.
  12. After 40+ years of listening to Ellington, I'm still hung up on Reminiscing In Tempo.
  13. All Greg Marvin recordings I'm aware of were vanity recordings (paid for by the artist). Not sure if this was ever on cd, but a vague memory says yes.
  14. They are just good Republicans. Get used to it Weezie. They read the handbook.

    Gene Quill

I thought his real name was Phil Anquill.
  16. I probably have sweaters older than you. May you outlive my sweaters.
  17. Haven't heard it, may never, and it may turn out to be a mini-Van, but the cover is more like an old Prestige (strangely I'm reminded of MGM - could be an old movie poster [maybe Man with the Golden Arm]) regardless of the Swing and Soul ref. At least that's the way I see it. Could I have used more punctuation in the first sentence?
  18. CRAP! I only have 92 years to pick these up!
  19. In ANY form (RVG or Conn) we need Hill's Compulsion & Andrew!!!, and Jackie's Consequences & High Frequency.
  20. I want to echo Jim's mention of Rikers Island. Wonderful. Though not obscure, I would also add Clark Terry's In Orbit and Bud's Time Waits. PJJ sounds so happy on these dates, I smile.
  21. Hey, if you want to modulate your rings, go ahead.
  22. Chicago will NOT dumb Dusty, and Atlanta will dump shitloads of players to save money.
  23. This record has nothing to do with Uptown. They didn't even exist then. Thanks for the complement anyway.
  24. I stopped paying attention to the label after Warne Marsh and Jimmy Raney died.
  25. These come from Allegro, and they list 38 titles on their site. I think they may be knock-offs from other labels. They also only have 18 tracks per disc, but some of these are tempting.
