  1. Geez!! This is all news to me. Please post a review after playing it.
  2. Bill, thanks for the mini report. More in the morning? Joe, don't get me started.
  3. I don't get it. Someone pisses on your leg and then says "I will do something else next time" and we say "good going"! What am I missing?
  4. I am "a plain-jane snivelling LURKER".
  5. I think you know "where the sun don't shine". Take your head out, and put this post there. Let Deep defend himself and start a new thread.
  6. I used to have the original lp, but sent it to Japan for "big bucks" about 10 years ago. It is fine, but unless you have 5000 jazz cds, you don't "need" it.
  7. I will copy and paste this to Ira.
  8. How many jazz bbs give you this kind of service?
  9. This was posted on Jazz Corner. I received this second hand earlier today. I do not know it's source but I do trust who sent it to me: I'm sad to report that pianist Gil Coggins passed at noon today in New York. Gil had been in the hospital with complications from an automobile accident earlier this year. Many of your know Gilly as pianist with Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, and Jackie McClean. He had an uncanny sense of the beautiful in his playing, and his trademark behind-the-beat phrasing was the perfect ballad complement. We heard too little of him. Always Know, Steve Schwartz Jazz From Studio 4 Friday, 7p-12a WGBH, 89.7FM, Boston www.wgbh.org
  10. From what I've heard, I will take Sangrey and Chuck Burdelik over all named so far.
  11. Not sure how much better the Monk can sound since the original masters and the subsequent lp masters are long gone.
  12. I just spoke to Ira Gitler on the phone and asked him about the "missing instrument". He denied saying this and asked me to tell him where he said it and I got the book out. Best I can find is "..., but with one horn there is no chance for the texture of the usual Dameron ensemble to come through........" Did I miss a page, or do you have another edition of the book?
  13. Fantasy does not own the Brown titles, they were licensed. Look for Vogue or BMG reissues for this material.
  14. Joe, I hope all goes well with your wife. See you on the 22nd.
  15. All the best Rooster. I've stayed away because of bad memories, but want to encourage you and your family.
  16. Geez! Another thread to avoid for my blood pressure. I do not want to get nasty.
  17. Well, I have never felt comfortable there since the "rude welcome" last year. I read the posts before BNBB ended and since, but rarely post myself. This new "tempest" just added to my discomfort.
  18. I decided to spend most of the afternoon chipping the packed snow and ice from the driveway and missed the earlier opportunity. Ann went down to MCC for her regular pottery night and I could have ridden along. My beloved Nissan is too sick to risk the drive to Muskegon. I hope James Moody kicks ass.
  19. Damn! I can't use the ticket/s. Thanks for thinking of me.
  20. Received nothing Dan. System must still have bugs. Emai me at cnessa@earthlink.net. Thanks.
  21. The point is Dan's comments in context reflect on the whole board and we do not need this crap - deserved or not. Dan may be "one of our guys", but we do not need the negative feedback. He may be MY "fucking right wing idiot" and "musically myopic", but he's one of us and his rants reflect badly on Jim's board.
  22. "Blow" screwed up a bunch of ears - musicians, producers and engineers at that time. Their highs went away. Microphone choices, piano tunings and equalizations while recording and mastering came into play. Easy to tell the "pop" influence here. Edit to add producers to the first sentence.
  23. I disagree. I think Dan posted in a "fit of anger" and that was fair, but I would hope he would go back and delete the messages.
  24. I tried emailing and got an error message. So I repeat, I have a Wailing With Lou to offer.
  25. For other reasons - I've had my Phil. IMHO he is a self-serving phoney. He's more interested in himself than the music fan/collector. Chris has his number!
