Missing Teen Elizabeth Smart Found Alive!!!
Chuck Nessa replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Thanks for posting this. I've been avoiding the national news for a week 'cause it drives me nuts. Wonderful to hear some good news. -
He led a nice session in 1930 with Hawk. It's in the first volume of Classics Hawkins series.

John Litweiler's book "The Freedom Principle" is a reliable "walk thru the music". It still sends me to the "record player" to listen to stuff he writes about.

Rhymes with "goose tuna"

And I responded to P-rock.

WRONG! The correct answer is: Organissimo "Waiting for the Boogaloo Sisters" PKO 020 Quartet Out "Live at the Meat House" Musica Con Carne 002 Roscoe Mitchell "Snurdy McGurdy" nessa ncd-20 See lots of 2s and 0s above? That's because we all want "twenties" for the previous errors .

I have sweaters older than Pharaohrock.

If all else fails, you could always buy it from one of the producers - MMMEEE!!! Hard to find, my ass. Now that I mention it, it is going away. Why don't old guys have butts? -
Jim, don't the titles just roll off your calculator?
-
Free 'em?! Hell, I didn't even know they'd been arrested.

The Encyclopedia of Popular music is also available online at the same website as Rise and Fall. -

Donald never wrote any liners for me, but he did do a short essay for the Japanese reissues on Bomba. Donald's earlier books include the Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music, a Sinatra bio called All or Nothing at All, and the wonderful Rise and Fall of Popular Music. The last named (a spectacular effort) can be read online - do a search on the title and you should find it. I've been trying to get Jim Sangrey to read it for some time, to no avail. -

Beware, Donald Clarke has been a close friend since 1970. His bio wins "hands down''. His prose is much more conversational, in fact I hear his voice as I read his stuff. Beyond that, I think this is one of the great jazz bios. -
It sounds like an Ornette tune. I've spent a lot of time searching through my recordings trying to find it. Thanks Mike.
-
Mike, does it give other titles?

I'm really surprised nobody commented on the info I gave about the unissued Lacy and Cherry dates. Maybe I'm better off WEA spurned my advances.

I have a couple of tips for Roscoe Mitchell fans with composition pronounciation troubles. Nonaah, a composition and DB Critics Poll album of the year winner is a 3 syllable word - No Nay Ah. That album contains a composition called A1TAL2A. This is a combo of Roscoe's daughter's name (Atala) and the numbers 1 & 2 - say " A-1 Tall Toola. Atala Mitchell is the young lady on the cover of Snurdy McGurdy, indeed she IS Snurdy McGurdy. Understand the photo was taken in 1981 and she has grown into a stunningly beautiful dancer.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Paul Secor, with one noted exception. I refuse to acknowledge someone named after "cruelty to animals".

Long story. In the late '70s before the Atlantic fire, I was negotiating with Nesuhi Ertegun (via Cuscuna) to buy 2 unissued dates from Atlantic. They had a half album by Lacy and another by Don Cherry. I planned an lp coupling these dates. We had agreed on the $, and Nesuhi asked me to negotiate royalty deals with Lacy and Cherry before signing. Then I received news via Cuscuna that the deal was off since Warner/Atlantic's Japanese affiliate (Pioneer) had announced the desire to issue a series of "unissued Atlantics", and had requested a complete master list. That series never materialized, and then the warehouse fire destroyed the masters. Luckily Atlantic had sent me 7 1/2 ips stereo copies of the masters. I think Cuscuna had a set as well, and probably sent them to Atlantic after the fire. A couple years ago I inquired about leasing the material so I could issue it, but was told the deal was too small for them to bother. The Cherry date is a trio with Henry Grimes and Ed Blackwell, and is spectacular. Ruppli's Atlantic discography lists 4 "unknown" titles, but I only have 3. Maybe the 4th was incomplete.

I have the Atlantic Lacy material, and it does not sound like Haden.

I signed up here asap. Note I am not a new member, but I need posts to respond to. To see why I left, check out the threat/d started by Pharoahrock, and check out his response tonight (Sunday circa 8:40). It opens with http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread....s=&threadid=421 and his latest posting is on page 8. I'm too weary to fight sobs like this.

You can get it as "Soul's Nite Out" on the Spanish Ensayo label. They recorded it, and it shows up from time to time online. I got my cd from Berkshire Record Outlet. Beware, I reversed the sides for better programming.
