  1. The Pi Threadgills are my "records of the year" for whatever year they were issued. Henry has created his own music world and plays the shit out of it.
  2. What Jim said. I mean it - this is how people eat, pay rent, run websites, etc. AND it is GREAT MUSIC. Don't hesitate. You win.
  3. I'm responding late, 'cause I ignored the thread. You are not going to like my response. I voted for Jody Grind 'cause he's only on half of it and that's about enough of his "spice" before I get tired of it. He is an addition to the tunes he's on, but Horace was right to limit the exposure. He's obviously a talented musician, he just doesn't match with my sensibilities. For me he lowers some dates(Jody Grind would attract me less without JS), elevates others. I think I'd like "All Seeing Eye" a lot more without Mr. Spaulding. Spaulding and Curtis Fuller are the wrong people for "Schizophrenia" in my opinion, as well. I slept on this date for 30 years because of them - if only Wayne and the rhythm section had better hornmates..................
  4. All the Manhattan Towers recordings were done by Rudy. This was a ballroom used for sessions which didn't comfortably fit in the small Hackensack studio.
  5. When Uptown issued the Chet Baker Boston 1954, about 10 years ago, I spoke to Carson on the phone. I sent him a bunch of cds and he was most pleased. I have not heard anything about him since then
  6. Shaw and Chambers are my choices. Sorry, but Tolliver is not a favorite of mine, and I can't believe Alfred would have spent money on him. I said "sorry". I do know BN did a couple of "test" dates with Woody and they didn't work out.
  7. The trail ends at the south edge of Whitehall, at White Lake Drive. It will eventually connect with the trail from Muskegon, east towards GR - but we gotta wait a while for this. I have no info about the northern extension to Ludington. Come and hang anytime. Damn, Ann and I leave on June 27th for a road trip to the Grand Canyon. We can't change the dates 'cause our son's wedding is part of the journey. We'll be gone for 2 weeks. I can't think of a gig I'd rather be at this year. Damn. Call me some time - 231 894-4088. The number in the book is always connected to this computer - haha.
  8. Please call me Chuck. You seem to be a bright guy - keep posting.
  9. Form will become obvious as you listen. Thanks for not rejecting me out of hand.
  10. The Hart - Montague trail has expanded to become the Hart - Whitehall trail. It currently ends about 1000 feet from my house. In the summer I bike a bit, but almost every night my wife and I walk a section as part of our current regimen. Gotta exercise those muscles every day.
  11. Mechanical engineers are not the best drivers of Porsches. The limits are discovered by other souls.
  12. Do you mean Ish, uncle of Sigourney Weaver?
  13. Highlights of the set for me are the comping of FS and Gary Peacock in general. A wonderful set for fans of all the players.
  14. I'll stick with the wine and cantaloupe crowd. Nice to have options.
  15. Knowledge is good, if it does not interfere with feeling. All art is about expressing feelings. Technique and "tools" are the way the artist expresses feelings, but the "audience" is already lost if they look for the "tools" to justify the emotion. If you search for the tools before "experiencing" the work, you are lost. Webern and Albert Ayler are primarily about MELODY. They have different ways of arriving there, and they deliver different melodies. That is the magic. It is really that simple. Forget what you learned. It may be of use later.
  16. I biked to the top of Mount Pleasant once. On the way I stopped and said "hi" to Mike Johnston at New Moon.
  17. Be sure to clean off your shoes before coming inside.
  18. Thanks for posting the link, I'd have missed it.
  19. The booklets are printed, so I would guess within a month.
  20. Cornbread might be number 1. AND I'm Chuck.
  21. I you are interested in Paul Bascomb, why not buy the Delmark cd now (owners of the masters0 and get a few alternates to boot. These, minus the alts will show up eventually in Classics' second volume. Let Paul's family make a little money before the Euro copyright runs out.
  22. Sorry, but there are at least 8 I would play before this. It is a very good record though.
  23. I voted for Compulsion.
  24. I think this book claiming a small bit of US jazz history for Canada might be ignored because the Star Spangled Banner was booed at a hockey game in Montreal. Take that, you wannabes!
  25. Ok. Universal has already Jobbed us.
