The Mule Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 (edited) I have to begin with my favorite: But I think this series of "bad pun" covers from Bethlehem win hands down: Edited August 18, 2003 by The Mule Quote
jazzbo Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I always have thought covers like this were SILLY, I like them, but they are still silly to me, and there are many contemporary companions in silliness: Quote
Claude Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 Unfortunately, the silliness does not end with the cover. Philly Joe does some Dracula imitation nonsense at the start of the album. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 This 'artful' cover from Chick still rates pretty well up there on the silly-o-meter ... Quote
The Mule Posted August 18, 2003 Author Report Posted August 18, 2003 (edited) All excellent so far--the Philly Joe and the Curtis Counce were a dead-heat tie for me... The Corea is....well....what can one say? Keep 'em coming! Edited August 18, 2003 by The Mule Quote
The Mule Posted August 18, 2003 Author Report Posted August 18, 2003 (edited) More in the Savoy "babes" series: ...and then there's this domestic scene from Bethlehem: hmmm...."Australian Jazz"....what should we use for the cover???? "Moody?!" More like: "I'm Going To Stab You In Your Sleep!" Edited August 18, 2003 by The Mule Quote
The Mule Posted August 18, 2003 Author Report Posted August 18, 2003 dammit, Lon! You beat me to it! Couldn't remember the title of that one.... Is it me, or is one a drawing of a photo and the other a photo? Toning it down for the censors? Quote
jazzbo Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I'm sorry. . . didn't mean to beat you to it. I think they are the same, just one is really badly scanned . . .? Quote
The Mule Posted August 18, 2003 Author Report Posted August 18, 2003 ..and who IS this guy anyhow? Quote
The Mule Posted August 18, 2003 Author Report Posted August 18, 2003 I think they are the same, just one is really badly scanned . . .? Might be. I actually have the cd. I'll....er....have to take a closer look when I get home.... Quote
jazzbo Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 Kind of looks like a young and slimmer Al "Jazzbo" Collins before his morning coffee. . . . Quote
RDK Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 Great thread guys! I wish I could scan some of the non-CD LP covers I have at home. Why did being a low budget indie jazz label so often require an utter lack of graphic design sense? No wonder Blue Note was such a popular label. Quote
The Mule Posted August 19, 2003 Author Report Posted August 19, 2003 No kidding. It's especially bizarre with a label like Bethlehem which boasted some beautiful Burt Goldblatt designed covers and then there's all those "We Cut This Album For Bread" stuff.... Quote
BruceH Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 ..and who IS this guy anyhow? Why that's Bill "B" Bop of course. Quote
JSngry Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 BH, are you being serious? Seems to me that that Mode character did have a name. Bill "B" Bop rings a bell, too. Can't recall where or when I heard that, though. No matter - I take "Bill" over those creepy paintings that Mode used. The one for MUSIC FOR PRANCING (yeah, some had both, from what I gather) makes Warne look like somebody who was too wholesome to get cast on Ozzie & Harriet. GEEZ, talk about disturbing... Quote
Dmitry Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 ..and who IS this guy anyhow? He actually looks like Chris Albertson... Quote
The Mule Posted August 19, 2003 Author Report Posted August 19, 2003 No matter - I take "Bill" over those creepy paintings that Mode used. You mean these? ...and then there's: Quote
brownie Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Now THIS is sillY: Nothing silly about that one. The lady was beautiful. She appeared in Playboy magazine back in my highschool days. Think the album photo was shot by Bunny Yeager, Though this was very far away off from my mind at the time, the album girl did wonder to help ease my prostate problems to be. I have a copy of this Marty Paich among my albums now. Quote
