kenny weir Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Is this news? I certainly haven't heard of it, but that don't mean much. The link was posted on the Australian site ozjazzforum this morning. Bird performs with Hawk backed by Hank Jones, Ray Brown and Buddy Rich. The section then performs alone before being joined (sans Hawk and Bird) by Bill Harris, Prez, Sweets, Flip and Ella. Wow. http://www.dailymotion.com/alternativa/video/53031 Quote

Wow. http://www.dailymotion.com/alternativa/video/53031 Not news, but great anyway. Somebody please correct me if you have better info: Apparently this film was an aborted Norman Granz attempt to make a sequel to "Jammin' the Blues." The Bird segments surfaced, without a soundtrack. in the '80s, I think. Then people figured out that they synched up very nicely with the commercially released performances of "Ballade" and "Celebrity." Granz's way of filmmaking at this time was to record the music first, then film the musicians mimicking it later. Quote
kenny weir Posted March 8, 2006 Author Report Posted March 8, 2006 I didn't have time to really study it, as I had to "borrow" a colleague's terminal - and even then it was stopping and starting! Quote
