md655321 Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Bunch of wankers shredding some christmas tunes. Awesome stuff for a 16 year old when I first got it. Still some excellent tunes on there, Jeff Beck's "Amazing Grace", Eric Johnson's "First Nowell" and especially Steve Morse's "Joy to the World." This is also the only time of year where I can get away with blasting Coltrane (albeit only Greensleeves.) Quote
Soulstation1 Posted December 7, 2005 Author Report Posted December 7, 2005 anyone have this? i need this one Quote

BruceH Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 I've got a Christmas jazz/blues anthology that I like to spin around Christmas, but nothing quite does it like Phil Spector's Christmas album. (You know, the old one. Before he took to shooting people.) Quote
John B Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 "What Can You Give a Wookie For Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb)" epitomizes the holiday spirit to me. Quote

Edward Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 This should be coming in the mail any day now - I can't wait. I am partial to Mel Torme's version of "The Christmas Song" on the Decca In Hollywood disc. Quote

GA Russell Posted December 9, 2005 Report Posted December 9, 2005 The Beach Boys' Christmas Album My favorite "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire" is Johnny Mathis'. That was the one I grew up with. Quote
GA Russell Posted December 10, 2005 Report Posted December 10, 2005 Michael Franks - Watching the Snow This came out the year before last, but I didn't learn about it until last year. I didn't buy it then (it was already getting late into the season). I bought it this year from Amazon along with a book I've been wanting for quite some time when I saw that BMG/YourMusic wouldn't carry it. Great record, if you're in a laid back mood. Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 10, 2005 Report Posted December 10, 2005 "What Can You Give a Wookie For Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb)" epitomizes the holiday spirit to me. Wow, you actually have that? Last year a three-minute montage from the TV special surfaced on the Internet... again, "wow" the only response I could muster. This year: Stan Kenton, A MERRY CHRISTMAS Shorty Rogers, THE SWINGIN' NUTCRACKER Frank Sinatra, A JOLLY CHRISTMAS Fats Navarro, "Bebop Carol" Sauter-Finegan, "Midnight Sleighride" Dexter Gordon, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" ...and, of course, the Organissimo holiday tunes, both old & new.
