Christiern Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Not for everyone, I know, but this is something every serious jazz scholar owes his or her ears. http://www.rounder.com/index.php?id=album....catalog_id=6763 Quote
Harold_Z Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Good news Chris ! I bought the last set and was dissapointed when I realized they had been edited. GOTTA get this ! Quote
jazzbo Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Another historical release! Life is good for those who love to explore jazz history lately! Quote
Matthew Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 This title alone is enough to make my want to get this set: Aaron Harris, His Hoodoo Woman, and the Hat That Started a Riot. Quote
mikeweil Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Any idea how much this is gonna be sold for? Glad I never got around to buy the earlier Rounder CDs ... Am I getting this right, the Lomax book will be included? Great! Quote
paul secor Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 My positive side says - Can't wait! My negative side says - When will you ever have the time to listen to all that? I'm going with the positive. Quote
LAL Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 Thanks for the heads up. This is definitely high up on the wishlist. Now I'm wondering to whom I can push those earlier Rounder discs. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 Thanks for the heads up. This is definitely high up on the wishlist. Now I'm wondering to whom I can push those earlier Rounder discs. ← I suggest you keep 'em, I will. Nothing bad about having all the music in one place. Quote
Kalo Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 Nothing bad about having all the music in one place. ← I agree with Chuck. I got the previous release as a gift and I'm very happy with it, though I'll seriously consider getting this complete issue... But I would keep the earlier release as a convenience. Quote
Kalo Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 (edited) And thanks for the reminder! It's time to drag those out again.. some EXCELLENT music, not to mention some first class gangsta rappin' from Mr. Jelly... Edited August 11, 2005 by Kalo Quote
kenny weir Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 I have the previous Rounders. Don't play them that often, but OTOH couldn't live without them either. And certainly, I'll be keeping even if I splurge on the new set. The talking bits will likely be played even less than the music, but nice to have. And the new book and packaging will make it very tempting. Much will depend on the price. Quote
brownie Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 I have stuck for years with the vinyl releases (8 volumes, some Swaggies, the rest from Classic Jazz, 1970 anonymous remastering). My interest in those Rounders has been raised! Hope the price won't be prohibitive! Quote
EKE BBB Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 Thanks for the heads-up, Chris! I will be buying this set for sure. Quote
John L Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 Good news! This is an incredible and unique archive for anyone interested in the history of jazz, blues, or New Orleans music. There is nothing else quite like it. Kudos to Rounder for finally taking the plunge to release all of it! Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 Pre-order price at CD Universe is 91 bucks. Quote
Kalo Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 I don't care! I'm holding out for $90.00 even! Quote
LAL Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 Pre-order price at CD Universe is 91 bucks. ← Looks like a decent price. OTOH Amazon will be selling it for around $120. Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 they shoulda done it right the first time - Quote
jazzbo Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 Agreed. I preordered. DSD! Interesting, and glad! Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 and those of us who paid for the first batch should get a discount (actually I got 'em free as review copies) - Quote
Stereojack Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 I had a conversation with Scott Billington of Rounder about this release just today. The set will contain 8 CD's, seven of them containing the complete unexpurgated recordings. The eighth disc will contain a pdf file with a full transcript of all of the conversation. The mastering is all new, directly from the original acetates, and Scott described a new Cedar process that has been used in places to remove noise. I usually roll my eyes when Cedar is mentioned, but according to Scott, this new process is not detrimental to the music. The packaging will be in a wooden (I think) box that resembles a piano, and one has to open the top to get at the CD's. Sounds like they're aiming for a design Grammy. The set will also will include a copy of John Lomax's great book "Mister Jelly Roll". Quote
Kalo Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 they shoulda done it right the first time - ← I guarantee that if they'd released the whole schmear first, someone would have complained that it was overkill and asked why they didn't release just the music. There's no pleasing some folks I like to think that they did it right, twice. Quote
LAL Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Will this set be stamped with a PG or R warning label?? Quote
