Chuck Nessa Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 A musician/friend with nothing to gain, no ax to grind, told me this story 20+ years ago. He was at RVG's for one of the big band sessions for Bashin' and Jimmy was a no-show. To save the session, Creed Taylor called in Lloyd Mayers to imitate Jimmy. Anyone out there to confirm or deny? Jim Alfredson Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 I've never heard that, but did this Lloyd fellow imitate Jimmy's grunts? If I recall correctly, they are all over that record. Quote

DMP Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 Don't know anything about that, but Lloyd Mayers did have a nice album on United Artists - with Oliver Nelson's arrangements - "A Taste of Honey" - very much in the vein of the Smith Verve's. Quote

Exactly. And I have been looking for this LP for years....It was Chuck Nessa that passed the correct information about the solist, I had always thought it was Richard Holmes playing there. I think the original album was published in 1961 or 1962.Should anybody have a copy available.... Quote
