David Ayers Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I have (or have had) a good few of these, and I was just marvelling at how many had still not made it to CD since the reissue, or had only been issued in Japan. sidewinder Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 (edited) A timely reminder of the riches which were available on Collector's Choice. Just looking in Mosaic Brochure 17, which had a True Blue flyer listing some of these. There was also Bill Potts 'The Jazz Soul of Porgy and Bess'. Fond recollections of when these items appeared - I'd struggled to find 'Oblique' in the shops until CC delivered the goods. Picked up a whole wadge of these also through that special offer from Tower a few years ago publicised on the BNBB. The Potts and the Randy Weston were acquired through that route. About $5 each I recall... Edited September 28, 2004 by sidewinder Quote
medjuck Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I didn't know about the CC release of the gil Evans. I have them on cd as Pacifc jazz releases-- from EMI I guess. I read somewhere (maybe here) that the original tapes are in bad shape. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Yes, those Gil Evans were nice to have come out, I hadn't gotten one of them befor the CCs arrived. I would love remastered versions of those by Addey or RVG. Quote
bertrand Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I loved that series. I remember buying about 15 in one week-end, something I usually never do. There were some titles that were gone real fast (Delightfulee). I was out of town on business on the Tuesday they came out, and when I came back on Friday, I had to hunt all over D.C. In Blue Note's defense, a lot of the hard-to-find titles are now appearing as RVGs. Without wanting to start the sound quality topic again, some of them have real wierd sound. Bertrand. Quote
Templejazz Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 I mentioned in another thread that a Tower Records near me has a few of these in their shelves. Anyone need 'Eternal Spirit', 'Flight to Jordan' or 'Poly-currents'? I wish Trompeta Toccata and a couple others would 'materialize' there some day. Quote
Big Wheel Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 (edited) I boldfaced the ones that have since been reissued. The Chambers, Elvin Jones, Thad Jones, Mitchell, Moncur, Parlan, Rivers, Weston, and I think also Gerald Wilson and Patton titles have also since come out as part of their respective Mosaic sets. Edited to reflect updates and goof-fixing. Art Blakey Indestructible! David Ayers Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 I own a CD version of Delightfulee dated 1995. I don't think it is Collectors Choice. ← Yes it is - the CCs were reprinted in 1994/5. The 1995 ones show that date and have a white and blue label. Quote
