Michael Fitzgerald Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Looking forward to the Hill, the Wilson, and the Silver. Everything else I got. Now, how about Clifford Jordan (1565) and Smithville (1594) and Club Baby Grand (1528/1529)? Don't believe any of those have ever seen U.S. issue. Mike Quote
Guest Chaney Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 SPAM! SPAM!! Thanks for the reminder on those October Conns. Looks like the time to pre-order is NOW. (All are up for pre-order on at CD Universe.) Pretty Pages... Quote
Eric Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Everything else I got. Mike Mike, How do you like Now? Thanks Quote
couw Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 I wonder whether they'll use the design I submitted for the dance with death album. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Now - hmm. Well, it's an interesting record. But if you're looking for Dialogue or Components, this ain't it. At points it's actually a lot like an adventurous rock record c. 1969 made by musicians instead of wannabes. If I presented it from that angle, rather than a jazz album, it might be more appealing to someone. The vocals are not of the Donald Byrd band & voices variety. There's lyrics. You got all kinds of other things you might not expect from a Blue Note record: wah wah guitar, etc. I do have an interest in the jazz/rock border, especially pioneering efforts in that area, so this record is important. JSngry Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 And "Black Heroes" is one HELLUVA tune! Quote
JohnS Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 A more interesting bunch this time round. Quote
jlhoots Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 (edited) The only 2 I don't have are the Hill & the Young. So - I'll get those 2. Addendum/disclaimer: Actually I don't have the Hutcherson & the Silver, but they don't interest me. I also don't collect DVDs. Edited September 1, 2004 by jlhoots Quote
Stefan Wood Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I'm more excited by the dvd releases. Power of Three? Manhattan Project? YEAH!!!!! Stefan Quote
jazzbo Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Wish the Conns were . . . RVGs. I'm looking forward to the Hill and the Hutcherson! (Like both these sessions a lot!) Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I wonder whether they'll use the design I submitted for the dance with death album. LOL! Can I use it instead? Quote
sidewinder Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 The Hutcherson is an interesting one - reminds me quite a bit of the Eddie Gales in terms of its style. Very much of its period, with almost a 'folk' feel. A big plus is that Harold Land is featured prominently and any Hutcherson/Land is worth having in my book. Quote
BruceH Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Now, how about Clifford Jordan (1565) and Smithville (1594) and Club Baby Grand (1528/1529)? Don't believe any of those have ever seen U.S. issue. Mike You hit the nail on the head! Quote
Peter Johnson Posted September 1, 2004 Author Report Posted September 1, 2004 I agree...how many of the first few batches of Connoisseurs have been reissued, at this point? I agree the stuff should be in print...but it would be nice to see the stuff that's never hit CD or, better yet, never had any U.S. issue or reissue of any sort!!! Quote
couw Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I wonder whether they'll use the design I submitted for the dance with death album. LOL! Can I use it instead? sure. copyright for the drawing resides with Francois Boucq/Casterman Quote
Cali Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 The title track from NOW! is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. Quote
cayetano Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I agree...how many of the first few batches of Connoisseurs have been reissued, at this point? Seven, I think: Grant Green, Green Street Wayne Shorter, The all seeing eye Lee Morgan, Leeway Freddie Hubbard, Ready for Freddie Kenny Dorham, Whistle stop Clifford Jordan/John Gilmore, Blowin' in from Chicago Jackie McLean, Destination out! And five more in the next batch: Sonny Clark, Dial s for Sonny Johnny Coles, Litte Johnny C Ike Quebec, Heavy Soul Tina Brooks, True Blue Pete LaRoca, Basra Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 Thanks I thought I checked there as well. I will be thrilled to buy Contours, a great record that stands with the best BN sessions, imso. I was hoping for Where Is Brooklyn as well, as MC indicated it could happen soon. As for the rest of the Sam Rivers BN music, let's hope those get reissued too. We love Sam. Quote
