Rooster_Ties
Haven't been on a bicycle in over 10 years, BUT my new job is only about 2 miles from home. So, I got my old bike out of the basement last week -- a decent 18-speed ("Giant" brand, not a brand I'd really heard of before - bought it used in college). Probably not a bike to get all excited about - but decently solid, and will get the job done. Just had it rehabbed last week, and I am now planning on biking to work 3 or maybe 4 days a week. My first bike commute to work was just yesterday!!! Edit: Looking on-line, maybe Giant isn't a half-bad brand at all... http://www.giant-bicycle.com/us Edited October 19, 2005 by Rooster_Ties

BeBop
As much as I believe that turnabout is fair play, and I'd like to make you jealous, my main 'road bike' ride is a 31-pound bike built around a frame I picked up from one of those bike touring companies, after the end of its useful life. Straight-guage steel. Nasty-looking unsculpted lugs. Cantis. Fenders, half the year. But it gets me through most of a 25,000km/year 'habit'. Still, I do appreciate a nice-looking ride, just as I do a fine auto...provided the bike doesn't have Shimano components. But I tend to be hard on bikes/cars, and abusing a beautiful bike would bother me - it might even prevent me from taking that off-road ride in the sleet or doing the spur of the moment CX. Can't have that. So, for both of us, ENJOY!

This is my umpteenth frame in the last 15 years; they tend to break around the rear stays or in the case of my present Bianchi, bottom bracket. So I thought Ti is the way to go. As for sleet, I have another bike for that. You out today Bebop? Is that your oilhead, Porcy? Nice ride! I've got a '72 r75/5! randissimo
My 2 bikes are a Giant NRS2 mtn bike and I have an early 80's Miyata Pro racing bike.. I love mtn biking the most,,,, but don't always have the time to get to a good single track trail. I am however only a couple of miles from a nice paved rail trail.. Joe G
I'm serious about commuting to work and doing as many errands as possible on my bike this year. To that end, I bought this little beaut today: Bianchi Sparta I'm looking foward to gettin' to it!

Jim R
Nice, Joe. If I was going to look for another bike (and who knows, I may have to now that climbing the hills on my favorite trail is getting a bit more difficult), that's pretty close to a dream machine. I'm still toolin' around on my 90's Schwinn cruiser deluxe (below is a photo of a very similar version): I had a couple of ten speeds when I was a kid (60's, 70's)- a Mercier and a Bianchi (nothing fancy). The Mercier was beautiful... a gift from my Dad when I was 13. She got stolen out of a friend's garage... 30 years later, I'm still pissed.
