jostber Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Hi, Does anyone know if there is a complete Art Tatum discography and/or sessionography somewhere around the net or in print? The Solo Masterpieces CD's are listed at French Amazon as released in October 2007. Are these new remasterings? http://www.amazon.fr/Tatum-Solo-Masterpiec...6858&sr=1-2 The original releases seems to have been from 1990. Quote
brownie Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Don't think there is any worthy Tatum discography on the net. There was one discography (by Laubich and Ray Spencer) but I am afraid it's not available any more. Doubt The Solo Masterpieces are new masterings. I'ld say they are straigth rereleases of the Pablo reissues. Quote
EKE BBB Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Got the Laubich/Spencer many moons ago. It's a very thorough work... though please note it dates from 1982, and hence it's not updated anymore. A couple of years ago I took the time to cross-check it with the discographical information from the Live Tatum series from Storyville, and IIRC there was some material not listed in Laubich/Spencer. And no CD listings, of course. You still can find it reasonably priced second-hand in some internet stores: Bookfinder search No online discography, to my knowledge. And I am with brownie regarding the possible new remastering for the Solo Masterpieces boxed set. I bet no new remastering has been used. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I'm sure this is the old product reintroduced to the market by the new owner/distributor (Concord). Quote
jostber Posted October 17, 2007 Author Report Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) The most complete discography I could find seems to be over at allmusic: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...iftxqy5ldse~T21 Could have loved to see a sessionography too. Thanks for the link to the Laubich book, I will check that out. Does anyone know what session is on this one? http://www.audiophileusa.com/item.cfm?record=52690 Edited October 17, 2007 by jostber Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 That Jazzz lp contains the first eleven titles of Storyville's "Complete Jazz Chronicle Solo Session". The same material was issued on lp by the French label Jazz Anthology. Quote
jostber Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 That's a wonderful session, I've got the "Complete Jazz Chronicle". Quote
brownie Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Concord is reusing the 1990 Phil Delance mastering for their Tatum series reissues. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Concord is reusing the 1990 Phil Delance mastering for their Tatum series reissues. So is that reprocessed stereo or do they have the mono tapes? Quote
mikeweil Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I have both the solo and group boxes - after reading somewhere that they partly used the faked stereo tapes I listened to some on headphones, but it all sounds like mono to me - the liner notes also say that mono master tapes were used. Ken Dryden Posted September 11, 2017 Report Posted September 11, 2017 I know that Ray Spencer died awhile back. I exchanged a few emails with Arnold Laubich years ago. A 2001 NYT article described him as a retired real estate attorney. Laubich told me there were some things he had in his collection that would remain unissued. I had a friend who evidently had dubs of some of them but he has since passed away. Quote
