birdanddizzy Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Hey folks, Who are the sidemen on this video ? (Just curious... -_- ) Art Tatum All Stars with Tommy Dorsey - "Art's Blues" from "The fabulous Dorsey", 1947. Thanks Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Think I got 'em all 'cept for the bass player. I'll 'fess up later. Honest. This could be fun - pretty amazing band. Quote
Free For All Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 (edited) Well, I at least know the trumpet player is Ziggy Ellman. I'll stop there and let some others guess. I only know 2-3 of the others though. Edited March 15, 2006 by Free For All Quote
Harold_Z Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 I think I got 'em too, but I'll cool it except that I think the bassist is Jack Lesberg. Quote
JSngry Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 How do you make the darn thing work? I remember seeing the movie. Quote
Stereojack Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 I got everybody except the bassist & guitarist, so I cheated & looked it up in Arnold Laubich's Tatum discography. Laubich names everybody except for these two. I agree that the bassist is probably Lesberg, but who's the guitarist? Quote

Harold_Z Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 The guitarist has me wondering too. Is Billy Bauer a possibility here? Quote

brownie Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 (edited) The guitarist has me wondering too. Is Billy Bauer a possibility here? Nope. Could the guitarist be Mike Pingatore who is listed as playing himself in the credits? He is also known as Mike Pingitore who played guitar with the Paul Whiteman orchestra and also on sessions with Billie Holiday. I'm not so sure about Jack Lesberg being the bass player... EKE BBB Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 As suggested to me by Fer Urbina: could the guitarist be George Van Eps? Quote
Harold_Z Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 As suggested to me by Fer Urbina: could the guitarist be George Van Eps? I googled Van Eps. The photo does look like him. Quote

birdanddizzy Posted March 17, 2006 Author Report Posted March 17, 2006 There was a copyright... Quote
Harold_Z Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 Is there any way to save these videos into some kind of file ? Quote
BERIGAN Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 There was a copyright... That's strange, cuz the film has been in public domain in the U.S. for a long time....But when music is involved... Quote
BERIGAN Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 Is there any way to save these videos into some kind of file ? Well, in case you haven't seen it, the film is just terrible! And the film quality isn't much better, since it is in the public domain. Still worth watching once for the music. You can buy the vhs for a song, and the DVD is not that much more... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-h...&Go.x=18&Go.y=4 Quote
birdanddizzy Posted March 17, 2006 Author Report Posted March 17, 2006 I saved the video just before they removed it. I play the game : I'll try to put it again on GoogleVideo Quote
