garthsj Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 For the Art Pepper fans out there, this will be welcomed news, and the price is good! (I am not in any way associated with this release ... just passing it on). Click here .... http://straightlife.info/cd.html Quote
John Tapscott Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Thanks Garth. I've just ordered it. It looks very good. I have lots of Pepper on LP, but not much on CD, so if this lives up to expectations, it will be a very welcome addition to my collection. Quote
mikelz777 Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 (edited) Interesting news! Maybe those of you who've already purchased the set can report back about the sound quality and content. (I see that it was recorded on analog cassette.) I'd like to hear more about it. Edited December 15, 2006 by mikelz777 Quote
jlhoots Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 This is being released by Art's widow, Laurie, for those of you who haven't "clicked" on the link. It's definitely on my "short" list. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 Saw the "movie clips" earlier and think the actor isn't "pretty enough" to be a convincing Pepper. The clips are fun though. Quote

Saw them as well in LA a couple months ago....Laurie was presenting the clips and answering questions.....interesting. m~ Quote
Bluerein Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 a bit too money greedy imo the whole text on the site. Quote

mikelz777 Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 (edited) a bit too money greedy imo the whole text on the site. I get that vibe too. The focus and drive should be to get Art's art out there and, of course, the money getting to the appropriate people should follow. This scenario seems kind of flipped around with all the talk and focus on the money. Then again, who loses? The fans get to hear music they otherwise wouldn't, and the people who should be getting paid are getting paid. Edited December 16, 2006 by mikelz777 Quote
John Tapscott Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 a bit too money greedy imo the whole text on the site. You're right. From the website 1. I'm attempting to help Art Pepper fans assuage their guilt and correct their bad karma by paying for their collections. 2. I'm introducing truly unreleased and unheard Art to people who want to hear it. # 1 kind of bugged me. If you order the CD it's almost like you're admitting your guilt. (I am guilt-free with regard to Art Pepper. All of his music in my collection is legit and was paid for by me). However I did order it because of #2. Quote

We talked about an all star set at the Chicago Jazz Festival and I did you guys a favor. One night we went for breakfast past the Biograph Theater. Quote

John Tapscott Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I bought it. I like it. Speedy shipping. Looking forward to more. Haven't received mine yet. Ordered 12/15. I've been having problems lately with missing and or late CD shipments. (usually take 7- 10 days from the U.S.) Don't know whether it's the time of year, or problems on one side of the border or the other. Quote
