Alfred Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Here is the article I found in the news section of www.jazztimes.com: When the Blue Note label returned after a five-year dormancy in 1985, label heads Bruce Lundvall and Michael Cuscuna produced a concert at New York City’s Town Hall for the occasion. The show starred a bunch of players who recorded for the label in its glory years, including drummer Art Blakey, keyboardist Herbie Hancock (pictured), vibist Bobby Hutcherson and guitarist Kenny Burrell. Portions of the show have been available on video for some time, but a new DVD due out November 4 will feature four performances previously unreleased on video as well as a Surround Sound mix. The DVD, titled One Night With Blue Note: An Historic All Star Reunion Concert, features 14 performances from the concert, most of them by all-star ensembles like the quintet of Hancock, Hutcherson, bassist Ron Carter, drummer Tony Williams and flutist James Newton. There are three solo performances, one each by guitarist Stanley Jordan and pianists Cecil Taylor and McCoy Tyner. Here’s a full track list, previously unseen performances are marked with an asterisk: Canteloupe Island Herbie Hancock – Piano Ron Carter – Bass Tony Williams – Drums Freddie Hubbard – Trumpet Joe Henderson - Tenor Saxophone Recorda-me* Herbie Hancock – Piano Ron Carter – Bass Tony Williams – Drums Freddie Hubbard – Trumpet Joe Henderson - Tenor Saxophone Bobby Hutcherson - Vibes Little B's Poem Herbie Hancock – Piano Ron Carter – Bass Tony Williams – Drums Bobby Hutcherson - Vibes James Newton - Flute Bouquet Herbie Hancock – Piano Ron Carter – Bass Bobby Hutcherson - Vibes Jumpin' Jack Stanley Jordan - Guitar Summertime Grover Washington Jr.- Soprano Sax Kenny Burrell – Guitar Reggie Workman – Bass Grady Tate - Drums Moanin' Art Blakey – Drums Reggie Workman – Bass Walter Davis Jr, - Piano Freddie Hubbard - Trumpet Johnny Griffin - Tenor Saxophone Curtis Fuller - Trombone Sweet and Lovely McCoy Tyner – Piano Appointment in Ghana* McCoy Tyner – Piano Cecil McBee – Bass Jack DeJohnette – Drums Woody Shaw - Trumpet Jackie McLean - Alto Saxophone Tone Poem Michel Petrucciani – Piano Charles Lloyd -Tenor Saxophone, Flute Cecil McBee – Bass Jack DeJohnette – Drums Blues Walk Lou Donaldson – Alto Saxophone Jimmy Smith - Organ Kenny Burrell - Guitar Grady Tate - Drums Jumpin' the Blues* Stanley Turrentine - Tenor Saxophone Jimmy Smith - Organ Kenny Burrell - Guitar Grady Tate - Drums Scratch My Back* Stanley Turrentine - Sax Jimmy Smith - Organ Kenny Burrell - Guitar Grady Tate - Drums Pontos Cantados Cecil Taylor - Piano Quote
Claude Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 That´s nice. The jazz DVD market is very small, it would be very optimistic to expect a big 4 DVD collectors set. This does not sell like Star Wars Quote
CJ Shearn Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 cool, I'm definitely buying. Quote
Tjazz Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 What happened to the other tracks? BROADSIDE WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR LADY DAY THE BLESSING PASSION DANCE The DVD appears to combine the VHS/Laserdiscs videos of ONE NIGHT WITH BLUE NOTE vol. 1 & 2, but leaves a few tracks off. Course, it does add some other tracks that weren't on the previous videos. It would be about 2 hours and should fit on a single DVD. I'll buy it for about $15. Deepdiscountdvd.com Quote
