B. Goren. Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 (edited) If you consider your self as Andrew Hill's fans, you must listen to Nefertiti. Nefertiti was recorded by Hill on 1976 and to the best of my knowledge was not available on CD until it was reissued a few months ago. Andrew Hill features bassist Richard Davis who's (together with Paul Chambers) my all time favorite bassist and drummer Roger Blank. The music is beautiful and reminds me very much Hills recordings for Steeplechase: Devine Revelation and Invitation. Completely different from Hill of the 60's. No self-respecting Hill's fan should be without this album... Edited August 13, 2005 by B. Goren. Quote
Kalo Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 I'd second that assessment. A very nice record. And Richard Davis would have to be one of my favorite bassists as well. I've had this on vinyl since the early days of my Hill obsession. Beautiful cover, too, at least on the LP. I assume the CD is the same. Quote
MartyJazz Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 I'll second that. Definitely a very good purchase of a Steeplechase LP that I made when it was initially released. Bronislaw Kaper's "Invitation" is one of my favorite compositions and I love Hill's dense treatment of it. Quote
Eric Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 I'll fourth that ... nice to have this one on CD Quote
jazzbo Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 Sounds like a good one! Nice that it has reappeared. Quote
kinuta Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 Nefertititi is great. His solo cd ' Homage' ( East West) is also excellent and well worth searching for. Quote
Spontooneous Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Am I the only one who's dragged by Roger Blank's playing? (Not dragged by anything else on the record, though.) Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 It is a very good cd. I've actually had a Japanese version for approx. two years, so it's been out on cd before. Quote
Guest Chaney Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Am I the only one who's dragged by Roger Blank's playing? (Not dragged by anything else on the record, though.) ← An Andrew Hill / Richard Davis duo album would have been an excellent idea. Quote
Kalo Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 Here's the cover: ← THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 So, those who have heard it, what might be the problem with Roger's drumming? Quote
SEK Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 I had the Inner City (?) LP since way-back-when and now have the Japanese CD. I've never had a problem with Roger Blank's drumming. Quote
