Durium
I have a rather strange question. Who can give me the track list of the A side of the second LP of "the Don Ellis at Filmore" 2LP released on the European CBS 66261 I have a metal LP "master" (might be possible) with the "matrix number" in the surface that reads S-66261-3 and it has three titles on it. I can play it (oh boy, I don't know if this is excellent for my needle) and it sounds like Don Ellis. I'd suggest the three titles of this side could be: Hey Jude ( 10:38) / Antea: (5:59) / Old Man's Tear (4:53) ? The lenghth of the tracks agrees with this information. Can someone confirm this track list information of the 3rd side (record 2 side A )? Keep swinging Hans Koert Keep swinging
sidewinder
Don't have the European issue but the US G30243. The side 3 lineup on this is: 1. 'Hey Jude' 2. 'Antea' (Hank Levy) 3. 'Old Man's Tear' (John Klemmer). Track timings on the label exactly as per your details. A pretty wild 2LP set ! Durium
Thank you Sidewinder for your info. do you have any idea what the metal "master" could be of that A side of record 2 of that set could be? If it is a "master" or a "stamper" it is strange that it is a "possitive" (I can play it on my gramophone) and so I don't think it was used to press the vinyl "directly". sidewinder
Hans, that looks to be a pretty neat item that you have there. Haven't a clue, to be honest. A Columbia Europe (Holland) promotional/publicity item, perhaps, for some 'exec' to hang on their wall? (I wasn't even aware that this one had been issued in Europe, all of the pressings I have seen have been US with the red Columbia label typical of the early 1970s). That metal 'master' must sound pretty far out. I gave my vinyl a spin a bit earlier and its total ring modulator madness, especially on 'Hey Jude'. I wonder if the Beatles ever heard that one? If the metal of the 'master' didn't destroy your needle the distortion on the ring modulator sure will.. Great find ! mikeweil
with the "matrix number" in the surface that reads S-66261-3 I have the Dutch pressing bearing exactly that matking in the wax. So you got the (grand)mother of my LP, Hans .... You a Don Ellis fan?
Durium
I have posted an image of the "master" at myBlue notes and BLUE NOTE. Scroll down to see the image. Can someone tell me if a CD release is available of this set? I'd love to hear the recording without harming my needle. mikeweil
No CD reissue of this so far, sorry. Not even in Japan. But a used copy of the double LP should be relatively easy to find.
Durium
I got an off-list explanation by Chuck: If it has grooves (not ridges) it is a "mother", the second step in "3 step processing". The mother (a positive) is plated to yield a negative which is called a stamper. thanks Chuck !! AmirBagachelles
I have some fine (really fine) CDRs of Tears of Joy, At Fillmore, and Autumn from the French CD reissue.
BFrank
Pretty amazed that it's still unissued on CD at this point, myself. Also, Maynard's "Live at Jimmy's - MF Horn 4 & 5" - where's THAT?
Durium
Do you mean, Amirbagachelles, that you have "Don Ellis at Filmore" on CD? Keep swinging Hans Koert Keep swinging
AmirBagachelles
I do. At an old Don Ellis fan site, I ran into some people who had done some good transfer to CD from vinyl, they came out great. PM me for more info.
