Morganized Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I know that someone had posted a complete list of the Blue Note West Coast Classics on that other board sometime ago. If someone has a complete list would you mind posting it to this board. I missed most of these at the time and now think that may have been a mistake. Thanks Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 You know, I was just about to ask the very same question. I'm getting my first WCC disc next week, via a trade on this board, and I wondered what all the other ones were. I too think I missed out on some good stuff. Here's the one I got commin' Curtis Amy: Katanga! Quote
jacknife Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Not sure if these are all of them or not, Curtis Amy/Dupree Bolton - Katanga Earl Anderza - Outa Sight Chet Baker - Quartet Bob Brookmeyer - Traditionalism Revisited Teddy Edwards - Sunset Eyes Gil Evans - Great Jazz Standards, New Bottles, Old Wine Russ Freeman/Richard Twardzik Trio Jim Hall - Jazz Guitar Lawrence Marable - Tenorman Les McCann - In New York Jack Montrose - Sextet Gerry Mulligan - California Concerts Bill Perkins - On Stage Bill Perkins & Richie Kamuca - Tenors Head On Annie Ross/Zoot Sims - A Gasser! Bud Shank/Bill Perkins Bud Shank/Bob Cooper - Blowin' Country Jack Sheldon - Quartet/Quintet Cy Touff - Octet and Quintet Quote
Big Wheel Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 (edited) A few too many on that list, which includes some PJ titles not released as "West Coast Classics." Curtis Amy/Dupree Bolton - Katanga Earl Anderza - Outa Sight Chet Baker - Quartet with Russ Freeman Bob Brookmeyer - Traditionalism Revisited Teddy Edwards - Sunset Eyes Jack Montrose - Sextet Bill Perkins - On Stage Bud Shank/Bill Perkins Bud Shank/Bob Cooper - Blowin' Country Jack Sheldon - Quartet/Quintet Cy Touff - Octet and Quintet plus the 2 disc Gerry Mulligan "Original Quintet with Chet Baker" should cover them all. So far I have the Amy, Baker/Freeman, Brookmeyer, Shank/Perkins, and Touff and am looking for the Edwards. Not a bad one in the bunch and it's hard to pick a favorite. Big Wheel Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 PS: good luck finding the Anderza in particular. I think I have seen that one only once and that was several years ago, possibly before these were deleted. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 The Brookmeyer is still available at Graveyardmall. I had some success trying the "off the beaten path" websites like Walmart, SamGoody, etc. True Blue may still have some left too. Quote
kumakuma Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I went through the process of locating all of these over the last few months. Got two from True Blue and the rest through half.com and ebay. I believe the Chet Baker and Mulligan are still in print. Also, I read somewhere that some of the sessions will be available in upcoming Mosaic Selects. Quote
jacknife Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 The Brookmeyer is still available at Graveyardmall. And they have free shipping right now. Coupon code: JulyShip Quote
Morganized Posted July 19, 2003 Author Report Posted July 19, 2003 Thanks for the information and the tip. Thanks to Jacknife I will soon have the Brookmeyer to go along with the Mulligan. Quote
marcoliv Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 the list from big wheel is accurate it took me some time to complete the series but i have all of them. i wish BN could add more titles to it... peace Marcus Oliveira Quote
king ubu Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 i wish BN could add more titles to it... I think they intended to release a third batch of these fine series, but as the first two didn't sell, they stopped. The first ones were: Baker/Freeman, Touff, Perkins, Montrose, Sheldon, Shank/Perkins so the second ones: Amy/Bolton, Andreza, Brookmeyer, Edwards, Mulligan, Shank/Cooper My favorites are the Mulligan set (as I don't have the Mosaic), the Baker (same), and Teddy Edwards. Amy was new for me (I could locate the LP version of this one a year or two ago), and I like that one a lot, too. The Andreza disc is the only one I don't have. Anybody has a second copy? ubu Quote
brownie Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 Was listening this week to the Earl Anderza 'Outa Sight' CD which I purchased the second it hit the stores when those West Coast Classics were reissued. This had been a very rare LP which I never ran into. There is a full page reproduction of the LP cover in the 'California Cool' West Coast Jazz of the 50s and the 60s' book by Graham Marsh which features many albums covers from the Pacific Jazz, World Pacific, Contemporary, etc. issues. Same 12inch book size as the earlier Graham Marsh Blue Note covers books. This was the unique appearance of Earl Anderza on records. He seems to have been a very modest musician. An excellent one! Anybody knows what happened to him? Quote
Ed S Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 There are a couple of copies of the Anderza available on half.com right now. Quote
marcoliv Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 (edited) on my lunchtime i went to a jazz store here in Rio de Janeiro and there is a sealed copy of Earl Anderza. imported cd´s in Brazil are not cheap so this one is 66 R$ (which corresponds to 23 US Dollars) if anyone really needs this one, i´ll be glad to help peace Marcus Oliveira Edited July 21, 2003 by marcoliv Quote
