medjuck Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 I TIVO'd the film when it was on IFC the other day and in re-watching it heard some music behind the scene where Julienne is interrogated by the police which doesn't seem to be on the cd. It starts with a bass solo, eventually drums come in and finally a piano is heard. Sounds a lot like the 5th cut on the Fontana cd which features Pierre Michelot and Kenny Clarke but no piano appears on that cut. I presume that it came from the sessions Miles did and I wonder if this means there's still more in the can somewhere. It did take them 30 years to release the first 16 cuts on the cd. Quote

I made the same remark about another soundtrack "Un témoin dans la ville" by Kenny Dorham and my friend Barney Wilen. I have the movie on video tape on which one can hear some excerpts not on the CD in sale. My friend Marcel Romano told me that it was a current practice in the 50's. Quote
Guest youmustbe Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Who cares! What they released is great enough! If you want every single scrap then you're not really interested in the music but in necrophilia! Quote
Claude Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 I have to agree with that. Some tracks on the CD are already of dubious musical value, because they only make sense in the context of a film soundtrack. I'm not interested in more of that stuff, just for completeness sake. On a related note: has anyone seen the recent Criterion DVD of the movie, which contains some film footage of the soundtrack recording? Is this footage significant? Quote

I agree that a couple of the tracks probably wouldn't have been released if they weren't on the soundtrack, but I'm hoping that there might be some material that's musically interesting that wasn't used in the movie. I think everything on the cd was used, if in edited form. Of course it could that Malle used everything that's worth listening to. And the music I noticed may be an example of something that they didnt' think was worthy of being on the cd. Quote
