catesta Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 All SPAM restaurant opens in the Philippines 3/28/2004 1:48 PM By: News 8 Austin Staff A restaurant the Philippines is serving up an American classic. A businessman in Manila has just opened the first all-SPAM SPAMJAM restaurant. “I love Spam. If you ask people my age, I grew up with SPAM. It's a favorite," owner Philip Abadilla said. SPAMburgers and SPAMnuggets are just a few of the items on the menu. Abadilla said he serves about 300 customers a day. "As a businessman, I'm always on the lookout for good opportunities and I figured since there's such a big market for Spam here in the Philippines, maybe a restaurant serving all Spam will be something that will be welcomed by a lot of Filipinos and it proved right," Abadilla said. The canned luncheon meat was founded during World War II by Hormel. In America, you either love it or hate it, but in the Philipines almost 3 million pounds of it are consumed each year. The owner of SPAMJAM said his business is so successful, he plans to open two more. Quote
