LWayne
Naturally I was disappointed when they made they announcement last night that Lee Konitz was unable to make his scheduled show with Minsarah at the Regattabar in Cambridge, but much more concerned about his health. The waiter advised us that he called the club and advised he was still intending on making the gig, but it sounds like he was probably held at the local hospital for observation. Anybody have any information as I certainly hope the best for this legend? LWayne
J.A.W.
That doesn't sound good, given his age - he'll be 82 later this year. I wish him all the best.
Van Basten II
Saw Lee in a gig earlier this week , was in great form, played great music made a few jokes with the audience, let's hope it's nothing serious.

Hardbopjazz
I saw Lee at the Village Vanguard recently and he seemed to be just fine and full of spunk. Hopefully it is nothing serious.

Hoppy T. Frog
I saw him a month ago he looked and sounded amazing for someone who is 82. He sounded amazing, period. I went to Blues Alley last night, and Minsarah announced he will be in the hospital for observation for several days. Nothing but good thoughts for Lee. Minsarah were okay, I just wish Blues Alley announced at the beginning, or put up a sign at the front door that Lee was not playing. Edited July 10, 2009 by Hoppy T. fkimbrough
A friend of Lee's told me that he has pneumonia, but will be OK - I think they talked on Monday or Tuesday. I can't verify it, but it sounds like he'll be alright. He's supposed to play at Birdland next week - haven't heard any reports on whether make it or not. fasstrack
Lee is funny. Once, years ago in one of my many fake professions I had a fruit and nut cart on Broadway. Lee came over to the cart and we talked. We had met before and he knew I was a musician. He asked me 'are you making your nut?' I'm glad he's feeling better.......... Lazaro Vega
Sunnyside just released a CD featuring pianist Dan Tepfer and Lee in "a series of short pieces, one for every key." Improvised music, plus "Trees" and a free piece that meanders into "The Last Time I Saw Paris." The Cd is called "Duos with Lee."
