    • The cold is back after a warm (if wet) yesterday. We had a fun outdoor “protest” event yesterday, today we travel a few hours to visit one of Lucinda’s sister and brother-in-law for a holiday meal. Starting off with Out Of/Into “Motion I” a really nice gathering of Blue Note “young lions” that I have been enjoying since its release.
    • I agree that they probably settled on Denis as he was a 'Charles' people would have heard of. Not sure how much it would have helped sales. Adding a comment with no proof that Denis and KD were tight seems like a red herring. In the past, Resonance booklets made a big production about how all the estates were involved and gave their blessing. The Denis Charles estate is not mentioned as far as I can tell. I agree the booklets are pure padding. The notes here contain a doozy: they claim the Olatunji gig was Coltrane's last. The last was Left Bank 5/7/67. Zev must know about it since he has been deeply immersed in Left Bank. I am sure he would tell you it was not recorded, an obviously unverifiable fact.
    • I agree it’s pretty confusing. I always have to check out Discogs when buying a new Steve Lacy record.
    • Thanks! Even if the gig listing contained the name of a drummer, I would give more credence to what is being said on stage during the concert...  Dorham worked with  Roger Blank and Huss Charles... So there's a good chance he worked with Denis Charles as well.... But that doesn't mean anything... I am pretty confident that if there been a striking argument justifying the transition from Huss to Denis, the Jazz Detective would have shared it with us...  Most likely, they didn't realize Huss Charles was an actual drummer and just asked themselves for a plausible name to fill into "... Charles" in such a way that it might even help sales. This is the usual crap we've come to expect from them, who needs a 20 page booklet if the most basic things (like the list of participating musicians) are lacking.
    • I have a pretty modest collection with around 800 cd's and almost 600 LP's. I think I sold around 300 cd's and about 100 LP's in the past 3 years as I became more selective in what to buy and what not to buy. I used to go to a cd/record fair and i took home 30 cd's or even more as they were only 5 euros a piece. But I found that I only listened more than once to two or three cd's. The rest was okay but was mainly taking up space. I now use Spotify, SoulSeek and YouTube to try records out. From there I make a selection what I want to hear again. If it clicks the second and third time, it ends up on my Discogs wantlist. That's what I want to buy. There are now 48 items on that listen, half of them cd and half of them LP. I don't do impulse buys anymore. Dissapointed too many times and selling them is mostly a money losing game.  I think I have room for another 100 cd's. That's probably enough for the rest of my life. Unfortunately I am reaching the maximum capacity of my LP shelves. Probably room for ten more or something like that. I am saving up money the coming two years for a beautiful new LP closet. That's going to give space to another 500 and that's probably the maximum I could keep in my music listening room. The ridiculously thick LP sleeves in some of the current series like the Tone Poets and the Verve AS series are pretty annoying. They are beautifilly done of course but take up as much space as 2 and sometimes even 3 regular LP's....
